Accomodations in Greve-in Chianti, Tuscany

We are considering the following places from Tuscany.net (listing them in case anyone has stayed there)

1. Cassa Mezzuola (apt. cologne)

2. Castello Vicchiomaggio

3. Corte di Ville

4. Fattoria Santo Stefano (apt. orlando)

does anyone know anything about the accomendations listed on Tuscany.net...in general ? do you get what you see, has anyone stayed in one ?? Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Greta

Although nopt specific to the properties you list, it would be worth your while to study the numerous reviews on www.slowtrav.com - - in particular, there are two reviews of properties listed by tuscany.net and both provide nice (gfavorable) reviews of what it was like to work with this company.

I used that website and we stayed at Villa Vignamaggio outside of Greve on the way to Lamole. It was heavenly and I would strongly recommend considering a stay. The grounds are expansive and beautiful and the accomodations are very nice - huge room, nice people, working vineyard. There website is very good.

In terms of Tuscany.Net, i drove by many of the places on that website and they seemed to be well portrayed except they were closer to the road than portrayed on the site. Vignamaggio is about 5km off the main road so you are really in a peaceful spot. I passed by Vicchiomaggio and that looked nice as well. Did not see the others. Have a wonderful trip.

I know it's not on your list but I second the comment about Vignamaggio. It's absolutely divine. They have 2 lovely pools... one is a "horizon pool" that just goes right over the edge overlooking hills of vineyards. You can get apartments there, which we did for 2 nights, and cook right in your room then take the food outside to the table by the pool. You can also stay in the main villa overlooking the gardens where "much ado about nothing" was filmed. And the landscaped gardens are incredible... we never wanted to leave.

They also offer winery tours, and they have a tasting room. I also believe they may do dinners during high season, though not sure.

Next time I'm in Tuscany I'll be there!

The Melazzano Estate on a hill above Greve is lovely. It is very small. The Aniquini Family has owned the estate forever. They have 4 or 5 guest cottages on the property each with a small kitchen and patio. They have a very nice pool also. The rates are very reasonable but they only rent by the week in the high season.
