Accomodations in Bacharach/St. Goar, Germany

We will be staying our last two vacation nights on the Rhine and have inquired at several places. I'm looking for quick recommendations on two in Bacharach: Pension Binz that has no web site or Im-Malerwinkel. In St.Goar we've inquired about Hotel Hauser. We're looking for clean, good breakfast, scenic location, quiet, reasonably priced, all the usual. Can anyone shed some light?

Not St. Goar or Bacharach, but we stayed in Boppard last year at the Hotel Garni Guenther. They are an American/German husband/wife team and the hotel was great.

I looked at Bacharach, but because of "Fireworks on the Rhine" festivities, we couldn't find a room. Also we wanted a room ON the Rhine. We spent our evenings sitting on the balcony, sipping a glass of reisling, watching the river traffic.

If you're interested the address for the hotel is http://www.hotelguenther.de/index.htm.

We stayed a couple of nights in St Goar at Hotel am Markt, which also has a restaurant with decent food. It's on the church square and we could see 2 castles on the hills across the river from our window. Left our window ajar all night and did not hear road noise or trains going by. Our room was 59€, including breakfast. If you are arriving by train, it is at the bottom of the hill from the tiny train station.

I've eaten in the Hauser but not stayed there. As I recall, it faced the river and seemed clean, if modest. Views from riverside rooms with balconies would be very nice.

We stayed at the Landsknecht north of town. It too is on the river and has some awesome views of Burg Maus (room 5 especially) and a great restaurant. Price is higher than the Hauser and, if you don't have a car, it is a bit inconvenient. Something to consider, or confuse the issue, anyway. http://www.hotel-landsknecht.de/go.to/modix/now/en.html

If you have a car I would recommend Hotel Rebstock which is in a little village above St. Goar just a few minutes drive into the town. We stayed here for 2 nights a couple of years ago, its in a lovely quiet picturesque spot, the rooms were fine. We ended up eating dinner in the hotel restaurant both nights, great atmosphere and the food was outstanding and very reasonable. www.hotel-rebstock.com
