Accomodations in Amboise

Looking for recommendations of a moderately priced place to stay in or near Amboise. Thanks.

We stayed in a nice B N B, it's between the Amboise train station and the town. Try [email protected] (part of www.logis-de-france.fr) .

Triple, with half board $100 or $130

(it is across the river from the chateau and town).

I stayed at the Manoir les Minimes in Amboise, located right on the river, with a lovely view of the Chateau d'Amboise. Perfect location, with private parking in the courtyard of hotel. I was there in May, 2003, and the rate for a standard room was about $120, I believe. And the room was beautiful! Breakfast was not included, but was very nice and served in their lovely dining room. They don't have a restaurant. This hotel is really lovely, with great service, and I would love to stay there again sometime.

I continue to hear great things about Le Manor Les Minimes. Does anyone know how it compares with the nearby Chateau de Pray? Thanks

We stayed at Chateau de Pray several years ago - we had a lovely room and enjoyed walking through the grounds. We were there off season and paid a very reasonable price - around $100. I know the price has increased since then. It was a very convenient location if you have a car.

The Manoie les Minimes sounds wonderful and a great location. For comfort, though of course not real "French Atmospheric" , there is a very good Novotel out of town a mile or so up on a hill. It is lovely and if you have a car it's great, or even a taxi ride. It has a lot of nice ammendities and sometimes a welcome change for a night or so.

In early July, we stayed at the Chateau des Ormeaux in Nazelles, about a 10-minute drive outside of Amboise ([email protected]). We found it on the Karen Brown's Guides website. Our bedroom (Debussey) on the top floor was smaller, but the bath was huge, with 2 separate sinks. Price was 115 Euros. The 3 men who run the B&B are extremely helpful, especially Eric, who speaks fluent English. GREAT restaurant: Auberge au Croix Blanche, a 15-minute from the B&B.

hello from France,

a very good address in Amboise is Hotel le CHoiseul, long the river Loire, on the footstep of Chateau d'Amboise
The restaurant is famous (1 star michelin) - you can have dinner looking the Loire ! good packages on their websites http://www.le-choiseul.com
Take time to visit Leonard de Vinci museum in AMboise

I am another fan of Manoir les Minimes, from a 2000 trip. The lodging and owners are wonderful. If you can spend a bit more, the two superior double rooms are very large and nice. It's an easy 10 minute walk into town.

Le Choiseul, another recommendation, is almost next door. I opted for the Manoir les Minimes and was not disappointed at all.

Also, I did have drinks and dinner at the Chateau de Pray one night (it's a 1-star Michelin, I believe). Sitting on their balcony sipping kir while overlooking the Loire River at sunset is definitely a nice experience. The Chateau de Pray is about 2-3 kms from Manoir les Minimes. One disdavantage of staying there would be that you would have to drive into town. At Le Choiseul or Manoir les Minimes, it's an easy walk.

Have a great trip.
