accomodations for family, warwick, bath

We've got a 4 days before we spend a week in London at the end of the month with our 7 year old and 9 year old. We're looking for accomodations around Warwick, Bath and Salisbury. Any suggestions? We're renting a flat in London so something with some local charm would be great.

You could try Coombe Abbey Hotel, which is on the outskirts of Coventry, which is about 10 miles from Warwick, its a fantastic old mansion which was once a monestery, loads of history and an ideal location for touring the midlands.

Our family enjoyed the Sydney Gardens Hotel in Bath. It's actually a B&B with about 8 rooms, in a big old house right on the gardens (they have their own locked gate). It's about a 5-minute walk into Bath and provides free parking -- IMHO, one if the big advantages of this place is that you don't have to drive INTO Bath! We had two rooms, but one of them had 3 beds in it, including at least 2 that were at least double-size. All rooms have ensuite baths and they offer a classic huge English breakfast plus fruit, yogurt, granola, etc.

We didn't stay in Warwick, but we did stay just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, just 5 or 6 miles away, at the Victoria Spa Lodge --again, a B&B in a grand old house (where Victoria allegedly stayed as a princess), with a big family room on the third floor, a huge classic breakfast, and a 5-minute walk into town along the Avon canval.

IMHO, it's not worth uprooting and relocating for Salisbury, as it's halfway between Bath and London, which are only about 3 - 4 hours apart.

Last year we stayed at the Parade Park B&B in Bath, www.paradepark.co.uk Located near the Abbey and baths, in easy walking distance from the train station, overlooking Parade Park. More like a small hotel, than a B&B, though a decent breakfast was served each a.m. We stayed in a moderately priced suite, with a double bed in one room and twin beds in the other. This is not the fanciest place in town, but we thought it was a great value. By the way (warning: editorial comment coming) I am not a huge fan of London, particularly when compared to places like Bath and the continent. You may want to split up your time in London and/or spend a little less time in London.

Hi famtraveller,

In Bath, we stayed at Brompton House, a wonderful B&B a 6 minute flat walk from the Abbey and Baths. www.bromptonhouse.co.uk Loved it.

In Salisbury, we stayed at Byways House, a lovely B&B on a quiet street with about a 7 minute walk to town square and 10 minutes to the Cathedral. It was a great location. http://www.s-h-systems.co.uk/hotels/bywayshouse.html

I'd recommend them both highly.

In the Bath area check out "the Old Chapel" bed and breakfast. Beautiful rooms and charming hosts. Check out their website. Have a good holiday.
