Accomodations between Shannon & Renvyle
We are flying into Shannon on a Sunday in September
|
Sorry -got cut off. Need accomodations between the two for one evening. Tried Doolin- sold out.
Any suggestions??? |
Depends how far you want to travel on the first day. Ennis is about an hour from Shannon, and Galway is about 1.5 hours - they would both be nice places to stay.
|
You could certainly get to Renvyle from Shannon the same day--maybe about a three hour drive. But if you really don't want to drive far that first day, I'd stay in Ennis and enjoy the rest of the drive the next day.

We cannot get 2 nights in Renvyle so we need an alternative.
Any info for Ballvaughan or Oughterard? Which is the better choice? |
Haven't stayed, but lots of good comments on this forum for Oughterard. Been through it and it looks like a good spot.

Hi irishgreen,
Try Drumcreehy House in Ballyvaughn. Excellent B&B (Guesthouse). http://www.druncreehyhouse.com Helen |

Hi Irishgreen,
I stayed in Renvyle last October and was unable to get accommodation for 2 of my nights. I stayed at the Curravagh Manor House in Oughterard and loved it. http://www.currarevagh.com It is an old manor house and run very much like a Victorian House where the guests are treated like friends of the family. They serve afternoon tea in the drawing room at 4pm, breakfast is set out on the sideboard in the dining room and has things like kedgeree and porridge and the gong goes at 8pm for dinner. Dinner is wonderful - a 5 course meal and they use only seasonal and fresh local produce. After dinner you can retire to the the hall and have a drink by the peat fire or go into the drawing room where someone plays the baby grand and another big fire blazing. All of this is on the shores of Lough Corrib where the owner will also arrange for you have your own gilly if required. Highly recommended Helen |
You might be hitting during the matchmaking festival in Lisdoonvarna. The area gets pretty booked up at that time. I've stayed in Oughterard also and enjoyed it. I stayed at the Waterfront Lodge and had a very nice stay with amazing views to the lake. There is also a Waterfall Lodge that gets good reviews. Helen's Manor House looks lovely but a bit pricey for me.

Exactly Bill,
We are hitting the matchmaking festival. Tried the Waterfall . Think we have luck with Drumcreehy House. Is Ballyvaughan as out of the way as I have heard? Hard to connect back to the main roads? It is out on the point but it is so hard to tell.We will be travelling northwest the next day. |
