Accomodation Salzburg

Hi,

Does anyone have any good suggestions on budget accomodation in Salzburg?

I read from a previous post about a hostel type place at or near the fortress - accesible with a elevator through the rock.

Can anyone help? I can't seem to find this place.

Thanks.

I have stayed at and recommend the Pension Bergland, Rupertgasse 15, A-5020 Salzburg. The Web Page is www.saltware.at/bergland/english.htm. Mr. Kuhn, owner of the hotel is very pleasent, prices are reasonable, and hotel was spotless. That was before he refurbished it this spring. I will be staying there again in September 99. It on the east side of the river withing reasonable walking distance from the train station and the pedestrian area. I can't help you with the hostel.

Rick Steves recommends a place called "Naturfreundehaus, also callled "Gasthaus Burgerwehr". According to him, it is a local version of a mountaineer's hut, a great budget alternative in a forest guarded by singing birds and snuggled in the remains of a 15th century castle wall overlooking Salzburg, a double is 280 AS with 120AS in 4 to 6 person bed dorms, open May-September. He mentons that you have to take the Monchsberg elevator. telephone 0662/841-729. Maybe this is what you read about? Good luck!.

Hotel Fuggerhof is a wonderful alternative to the high priced central Salzburg hotels. I know, I've stayed at both.

Hotel Fuggerhof is a small bed and breakfast located about a mile and a half from the center of Salzburg with a nice view of the Monchsburg. It is on the main bus line, is convenient, but out of the loudness that sometimes accompanies central cities.

The owner Herta Kammerhofer does a great job. The breakfast is nice, the rooms are clean and nice ensuite and the price for a double was about $100.

Can highly rerecommend, in fact versus the $140 to $175 for the same thing in town, it is a great bargain.

e-mail address:[email protected]

Amanda- Mary Ann is right. You can ride the Monchsburg lift to get to the hostel. But it's probably pretty cold at nite in October. I've sat outside of their little hut and drank a beer. The view is wonderful.I think it would be a hassle to get to if you had any luggage to speak of. Get to the train station before noon and you shoudn't have any trouble getting a reasonably priced room at the TI.
HI! Last summer we stayed at a place named Hotel San Sebastian. It was very affordable and clean. Out of 2 months and 9 countries this was our fave accomodation. It was exceptionally clean and quiet and in a wonderful location. I assume we found it in a Let's Go book- so you may want to look there for more info.

We did find Salzburg more expensive than some of the outlying towns in Germany. There's a wonderful spot, from the Fodor book, in Bad Reichenhall called Pension Hubertus. The family was very kind, and it's only a 20 minute drive or train ride into Salzburg. In Salzburg itself, we stayed at Pension Herburt (from Karen Brown's book)

We did find Salzburg (and Austria in general) more expensive than some of the outlying towns in Germany. There's a wonderful spot, from the Fodor book, in Bad Reichenhall called Pension Hubertus. The family was very kind, and it's only a 20 minute drive or train ride into Salzburg. In Salzburg itself, we stayed at Pension Herburt The email address for Herbert Lindpointner is [email protected]. He was very friendly, spoke excellent English, and his hotel is a 5 minute bus ride into the downtown area. I think the room was about $100 for 3 of us. You most likely won't find anything much less than that in Salzburg.
