Accomodation rentals Vevey/Pully
My husband is working in Pully June 27-July 14 2010 and we would like to find out how to rent a small apartment or house.
Please let me know, I am not sure of distances, is Vevey a good place to stay, will he be able to get to work quickly? Need 2 bedrooms maybe 3. Thanks Julie |
Lucky your hubby! That's one of my favorite places to visit, and I've been there about 11 times!
One good site for finding short-term rentals is www.montreux-vevey.com After switching to English, just click on "Accommodation" and then hit the "Apartments and B&B" key. I used this site to find the place I'll be renting starting this Sunday in Montreux. Pully may not be listed as it's practically in Lausanne, but there is a button for the Lavaux, which is just next to Pully. If you want to stay in Pully, you may find something on the Lausanne pages. Vevey is a great place to stay! It will be about 15 minutes from Pully; you can check the exact schedules at the Swiss train site www.rail.ch I must add that late June and July are very high tourist season, and all the apartments will be charging their highest rates. And also note that when they advertise a "3 room" place it means 2 bedrooms (living room counts as a room). Finding a 2 or 3 bedroom place will be costly -- Have a great time! s |
Wow! Amaing info and so quickly ! Thanks so much!!
Since we won't have to pay for his flight, that certainly gives a bit more flex in accomodation budget and we may get a little help on that front too. It is such a nice opportunity we know it is worth strething ourselves to take advantage of it. I am not familiar with the area, is which towns have waterfront access that might be sensibly close to Pully,I am told Lausanne is less walkable than other choices. Thanks again! |
I think Lausanne is walkable enough, just that it's a LOT bigger, so just by shear size you wouldn't walk across the entire city like you can do in the smaller towns of Vevey or Montreux. Vevey and Montreux are the next major towns along the lake (heading outward from Geneva) that would be easy to get to by train and be big enough to have a choice of rentals.

I wouldn't rule out looking at Lausanne itself, if that's closest to work. I have a friend in the area and we visited friends of hers in an apartment in Lausanne. It was a nice area. Not fancy, but cozy and sweet, nice cafes nearby, etc. You may need to rethink finding 3-bedrooms though. Typically apartments are tiny, and even then they cost a mint!

Hi again,
I personally don't like Lausanne, but that's a personal choice. I just like smaller towns and villages over cities. Vevey and Pully are both right on the water; other waterside towns are Cully and Lutry, both close to Lausanne and Pully. Cully is a really really small place, not much more than a dock, a train station, and a few restaurants. Of all these places in the Lavaux, my favorite is Lutry, a town with preserved medieval buildings with information boards set up along a walk through town, lots of small boutiques, and lots of cafes to help you with your lazy afternoons! A friend of mine also says that Lutry has the best wine cave in the Lavaux (I haven't taken the time to visit any wine caves). One place that I've looked at for a future visit is Le Bourg 7: www.lebourg7.com/en/# Though I don't know if they have apartments as large as you'd like. And to further help you fill your days, here are links to my "reviews" (w/photos) of my favorite things to do in the area: Montreux old town http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...reux_Vaud.html Lavaux http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...reux_Vaud.html Promenade Fleuri http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...reux_Vaud.html Morges http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...rges_Vaud.html Gruyeres http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR..._Fribourg.html Saanen http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...wiss_Alps.html Gstaad http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...wiss_Alps.html Have fun! s |
Dear swandav2000
I just found a list at Lausanne tourist office and am enquiring after a Lutry apartment! I am reassured by your comments! My research also suggested that for someone with 2 young girls (and no desire to drive a car) a village, walks on the lake and family dinners made with produce from local markets is the right speed for us! I am excited to read your reviews. I was so excited by Le Bourg 7 but it really is one bedroom, all right for a week, not for a month! Thanks again! This has been so helpful! Anyone else looking might try http://www.lausanne-tourisme.ch/Data...bjDir/2463.pdf which is very thorough. be prepared for sticker shock though! :o) |
Ohhh yes, a village like Lutry will be perfect for you. Public transport is DENSE around the lake -- local trains as well as lake ferries. Don't forget about the possibility to rent bikes -- the Lavaux vineyards is one of my favorite areas for biking, and you can easily get to Vevey or Lausanne from Lutry.
Anyway, you'll have a blast! s |
Lutry aprt. only one bedroom, a big disappointment, but have found a nice house in Grandvaux. Not finding much about this village, will it have amenities, like some basic places to shop for food?
THanks |
Hi dendleju,
I wonder if you investigated that site I gave you above, www.montreux-vevey.com? I just took a look for what they have under "Lavaux," and there are two apartments with three rooms and one apartment with 4-6 rooms. You may want to contact them to see if they are open -- they look really lovely. As far as Granvaux, I haven't ever been there. I think that's the town that the train goes through, where it pops out of a tunnel and suddenly the gorgeous lake is right in front of you. The town itself has a website at www.grandaux.ch and as I was rummaging around, I found its page listing all of its wine caves -- about 15 of them!! So I suspect it is a full-blown town, not just a jumble of houses. I would feel certain that it has at least one grocery store. Hope you find just the right place!! s |
Tunrs out the compnay owns an aprtment right by the office (Perredautz bus stop) So though not a great location it is free and we can then personally visit other premises for future visits.
