Accomodation in Italy - cheap as possible
 

Hi.

I´m travelling alone. Looking for the cheapest accomodations in Italy, preferably in single room (but will not spend more than 50 for it) Any suggestions? Are convents the cheapest?

50 what? euro, dollar or ??

There are lots in cheap hotels in Italian cities - often to be found around railway stations - but if you mean 50 euros, you'll probably have to make do without a bathroom. I can't comment on convents as I've never stayed in one.

After I posted, started looking around. It seems I´ll have to raise this...

I'm sure accommodation costs swing wildly based on the city your going too (eg., Rome is more expensive then say Lecce).

If you give an itinerary someone might be able to give you more specific suggestions.

Look into youth hostels.. You might have some more luck.

Yes, telling us what cities you plan to visit would be helpful. I checked on Venere.com and the cheapest hotel in Rome is 59 Euro per night and it's out in the suburbs. There are a lot of hotels in the 60 to 70 Euro range, from 1 to 3 stars, and in various locations. But youth hostels would probably be the cheapest way to go.

I also checked Eurocheapo.com and there are a couple of hostels in the $40 dollar range and one B&B, the Independence Square, that is $47 and near Termini station.

There is plenty of accommodation in Italy in the 50 euro range. That is my husband's and my range as well. So far we have only paid more than that once in all our visits.

Where are you going to be staying? Rome? Tuscany? Cinque Terre? Sicily????

It depends when you are traveling. A "single economic" room at Hotel Julia in Rome can be that cheap.

In Florence, you have numerous options. Two B&B options that I know of, although I ended up staying in a convent, B&B Peterson (recommended by Ira) and NinnaNanna B&B. The convent I stayed at is http://www.fmmfirenze.it .

Check www.octopustravel.com - you may be able to get a great Venice deal like I did. Often Florence deals are available there too, but not so much Rome deals.

I remember that Locanada San Samuele is one of the cheaper hotels in Venice.

Both are great I have stayed at both. Hotel Julia is on par with Motel 6\Big 8 etc nothing fancy but clean and the breakfast is ok not great but it gets you going and out you go to the corner shop.

B&B Peterson I stayed here at thanks to Ira. Super clean, on main street so a little noise but otherwise fine. No Breakfast, but a shop is just at corner, bus stops at door.
