Accommodations near the Eiffel Tower
Granddaughter will attend the American University of Paris and we live in Texas. Anyone on Fodor know the best rates for one to stay in that area? Any frugal ideas??? Cyndyq

There are all kinds of rates in all kinds of hotels, but very generally speaking, that's not a cheap area of Paris. Nor is it very convenient to visiting the main sites typical visitors wish to see. How much (in euros) do you want to spend per night?

We have loved the Muguet and the neighborhood. Not hard to get anywhere--and it is near 4 bus lines--and overlooked mode of transport sometimes, and you see more!

If your Grand Daughter plans on attending the University for any extended period of time, she probably will not want to stay in a hotel. I would suggest contacting the University to ask about student housing possibilities.
The public transportation system of the city is superb and, as a student, the cost of commuting from anywhere in Paris should be cheap and convenient. |
I'm assuming the hotel is for you, the grandparents, who wish to spend some time in Paris with your granddaughter?

Here's a start - http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hood...fel-tower.html
Be aware that the rates on the front page that say from mean FROM. To get an idea of the actual rates, click "get rates" for your dates or call them. Don't be put off by the few listed that say "no online booking". Often, hotels that are by telephone only (don't worry they all speak English) have some the best values. |
Lokk at Rick Steves' Paris guide book for many reasonable recommendations in the 7th arrondisement which is near the Eiffel Tower.
We recently stayed at Hotel7Eiffel which has a wonderful location and fun vibe to it. Look for internet specials on their website. |
Yes. It will be for us while we visit. Thank you! I will look into these recommendations

We love to stay in this area and have stayed at the Relais Bosquet (favorite), the Muguet and the Londres Eiffel where we had an ET view. We have walked by the Hotel du Champs de Mars (same street as the Relais Bosquet) which has lower rates than the others.

If you prefer something more corporate than boutiquey there are the Pullman Eiffel Tower and a Mercure right night door on Rue Jean Rey.
Have stayed in both over the years and have never found transit a problem with metro and RER stations close by. If you want to save money both these hotels show up on Priceline's NYOP and Hotwire. Use http://www.betterbidding.com to learn how to get the hotel you want at the price you want. |
I'll second the Londres Eiffel:

We stayed at the mercure and it was reasonable and just right. Skes taken her tour of the school! Thank you. And I will purchase the Rick Steves Paris guide book!

We stayed here in 2011: http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_08.htm
Two 1/2 blocks from the University, easy access, great company. |
