Accommodations near Munich

We'll be flying into Munich on a Friday morning, picking up a car North of the city, and driving toward Switzerland, West on the A96.

Looking for a place to spend the night -- no more than 1 hour drive from Munich. I would like to check in, take a shower & nap, get up, stroll the town, have a few beers, a nice dinner, and then get a good night's sleep. Any recommendations? ((b))

Consider Landshut, a great town to visit with great sightseeing and lodging options.

I've heard lots of nice things about Landshut, but it's in the opposite direction we'll be going. ((b))

http://www.mindelheim.de, would be the best place imho ;-), Landshut would be in opposite direction.

OOps, leave it to me to send you the opposite way!!:-D My husband has a message for you-" welcome to the club".

The Hotel Jedermann, Bayerstrasser 95 is but a few minutes walk from main train station in Munich. I have stayed ther many times arriving from US and ready for a shower and nap. It is plain and simple, but clean and friendly with a lovely breakfast included - one of the best. Prices probably >$100 by now. The train from airport is easy ~$15. As well, it is located just a short distance(walking or trolly) to Marrianne Platz.

Augsburg and Ulm are in the general direction you're going(A8 instead of A96). I haven't spent the night in either of the two cities, but I spent an afternoon in Augsburg and thought it might be worth spending more time. Augsburg has a couple of good beer gardens. Ulm is known for its huge cathedral with the world's tallest steeple.

From the "For What it's Worth" department: Don't take a nap when you check in - it only prolongs jet lag.

The Marriott Hotel in Freising is about 9 klicks NW of the airport and may serve your purpose. Have stayed here several times to "flop" after the long flight. Friesing is small, quiet, with some good restaurants and bars. We love the small "stube" type restaurant in the hotel itself.
You can get a shuttle pick up at MUC if you wish...it's about a 20 minute shuttle ride

lydiamc, Don't want to stay in Munich this trip, but thanks. I'll file that hotel name for next time.

Bird, taking a 2-hour nap seems to work for us. I've been to both of those towns -- looking for a different experience.

EmilyC -- I will be flying into Munich, picking up the car, and getting out of Dodge. Seems like it would be a great place if one had an early morning flight.

logos999, looks like a nice little village. Just might be what I'm looking for. I'll check it out. ((b))

I found a place to stay in Mindelheim. This 4* hotel has 71 rooms, and the e-mail said they only had a junior suite or an apartment available. I'm not complaining as I booked the junior suite for only 85 EUR with buffet breakfast. The double which I wanted was 75 EUR, but what's the story for the 19th & 20th of May? Something going on? I figured 7 months out I wouldn't have any problem booking hotel rooms. The holiday I believe is the following weekend? ((b))

It's no holiday, must be other reasons. Mindelheim, however is a very good choice!

Search "Ulmer Spatz" here.. for a place to stay in Ulm.

Best wishes,

I recommend Landsberg am Lech, right on the A96, about an hour from Munich airport. Nice picturesque little town.
