accommodations in Scotland
 

We will be in Edinburgh for three days in early June. This will be our first time there. Any suggestions/advice on a hotel or B&B? We will be returning our car prior to being in Edin so will be walking everywhere. Quiet, charming, and convenient are a pland moderately priced.

There is a massive massive choice. Your first point of call should be the tourist board website www.edinburgh.org

Not sure of your budget but public transport is very good in the city so it shouldn't matter too much if you have to stay in the suburbs.

I am sure others have their favourites.

We stayed at the Lauderville B&B. Very clean, neat, pleasant and well run.

Two B&Bs owned by nice people I know slightly are http://www.aboutscotland.com/edin/albertterrace.html & http://www.pringlesingle.com/frameset.html). Both are in Morningside which is quite a nice area about a mile from the city centre, with good bus links.
1 Albert Terrace is a beautiful Georgian stone terrace house with views to the Pentlands. Pringle's Ingle is a Victorian sandstone house. Both are in very quiet streets.

On my last two trips to Edinburgh I've stayed at the Hotel Ibis in Hunter Square and would highly recommend it. It's literally steps from the Royal Mile and within walking distance of all the sites of interest in the city center. You could not find a more convenient location. It's very reasonably priced also - we paid £50 per night for a twin room, prices will be higher when you go I beleive due to its being the high season (I visited in April - shoulder season). But still a good value. All rooms are ensuite, breakfast costs extra. We always got our own breakfast rather than buying it there, I did feel their breaksfast was a bit overpriced plus I'm not a big breakfast eater anyway.
