Accommodations in Mont St, Michel

We are travelling to Mont St. Michel and would like to spend the evening. I have booked two rooms (we are 2 adults and 2 teenagers) at La Mere Poulard. It seems expensive and I keep hearing mixed reviews. Any recent stays that you could share with me? Are we being foolish wanting to stay right in the Mont? Any other recommendations?
Thanks so much.

We didn't stay at Mere Poulard so I can't speak to the accomodations (we stayed at the less expensive Le Mouton Blanc), however we eat there and had a fine meal. I don't think you are foolish in the least. Mont St. Michel is everything you could hope for in the late evening and early morning. I think I would have far less warm feelings for it had we only experienced it during the day.

Definitely spend the night at le MSM if you can. I personally wouldn't stay at La Mère Poulard, though, and I thought the omelettes were overpriced and less than appetizing. Do a google search for the Hôtel du Guesclin and see what you think.

I also stayed and ate at Le Mouton Blanc. I thought it a good value and I'm glad I stayed on the Mont.

Definitely stay overnight! It is a totally different experience to walk the ramparts at night and to wake and watch the restaurants get their supplies delivered.

We too had a wonderful stay at the Mouton Blanc - not posh, but acceptable especially for the price and we always have enjoyed their restaurant.

Have a great time.

Thanks for the information on Le mouton blanc. Next question, what is the best way to book hotels. I seem to have a lot of trouble reaching them through the Internet.
Thanks again

As I recall Le Mouton Blanc has very little web presence. You can always contact them via phone.
Tel:(33) 02 33 60 14 08

The fax number for Le Mouton Blanc is 02 33 60 05 62. Fax phone calls to France cost pennies and it reduces the language barrier.

We stayed and La Mere Poulard and loved it. The room was beautiful. I also had heard mixed reviewed but could only book at La Mere. Mount St. Michel is at it's best after all the tour bus leave. There is a grocery store just befor you get to Le Mont. We stopped there to pick up great bottles of wine and some cheese for our room. It is magical. Enjoy
