Accommodations in Metz
My granddaughter is studying at Georgia Tech-Lorraine this semester, and I plan to visit her in early April. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced hotel in the old town section? I'd like a hotel with some charm but the mod-cons of 2023! Thanks very much for any suggestions!

I generally stay at the Ibis Styles near the train station, but it is a bit of a walk (10 minutes) to central Metz, and the university campus is a bit farther, if you need to go there to see her. The Ibis Styles is a converted classic hotel with plenty of charm.

Thank you, but I really want to stay in the ancienne ville, where I, as an elderly woman, can easily explore while she is in classes.I was thinking of Hôtel de la Cathédrale (but wondering if it is too basic?) or La Citadelle? Do you know anything about either of these? I will take a bus if I visit her campus.

I stayed at La Citadelle. It was very nice and well located.

Thank you, Joanne; I think I will book at La Citadelle asap!
|
You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy it!

(Just for the record, we are only talking about a 300m difference in distance from the Ibis Styles but a 100€ difference in price. I know -- peanuts for some of you. Next to the cathedral would be a more central location.)

While the hotel by the cathedral may be better located, it does not have an elevator. The steps may be an issue for the OP who stated that they are elderly. I don’t know if there are steps into the hotel or if there are rooms available on the ground floor.

Of course there is also the modern Novotel in the Saint Jacques shopping mall in the absolute center of the city.

Well, that is nice to know
