Accommodations in Madrid, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Malaga Granada Valencia
We area planning a trip to Spain in late May 2016. We will departing from Seattle, Washington USA. Our itinerary will include the following cities: Madrid, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Granada, Malaga, Toledo and Valencia. We are looking for the seasoned travelers for suggestions in each of these cities. where we can enjoy reasonable prices, location and flavor. We would appreciate your input.
Thank you. |
How many people is "we"?
What is your specific nightly budget in euros? Will you be anywhere long enough to consider an apartment versus a hotel? |
What's your idea of a "reasonable" price? I just wondered as some people's ideas on that differ from mine, and of course, prices vary depending on the city -- Barcelona and Madrid are much more expensive than, say, Malaga (or Toledo, I imagine). Big major cities usually are.
IN any case, I really like the HOtel INtur Palacio San Martin in Madrid as it is a very convenient location and still has traditional furnishings. Many hotels in Madrid (and Barcelona, etc) have modernized and are very contemporary. I don't like that. So that depends what you want. It seems most hotels in Madrid are like that at a certain level that I saw. Barcelona, also, but there I do stay iun a contemporary one as that's where I found the best location that I wanted (they were all that way) at the right price. A lot of people prefer different locations than I do in Barcelona, though--I would not want to stay in Born area but others do, for example. So I don't have any suggestions there about a hotel with "flavor", really. I like the NH Calderon and Hotel Jazz, but they are modern. Great locations though. |
All theses places are great value, fine hotel standard with private bath, tv, AC, safe, 24h desk etc. and in the best locations.
Madrid: Persal, in the heart of the city and just off Plaza Santa Ana: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/persalmadrid.en-gb.html The area: http://www.barrioletras.com/ Barcelona: Banys Orientals in the medieval and vibrant El Born: http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com/en/ The area: http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...s/el-born.html Malaga: Don Curro, just off central Plaza la Marina, close to the sea, the main pedestrian Marques de Larios, great sights, cafes, tapas bars, restaurants etc in genuine and 3000 year old Phoenician Malaka: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/hote...rro.en-gb.html "malaga - Spain's best kept Secret": http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...pt-secret.html |
Prices in late May should be reasonable in most locations, but some idea of a budget would be helpful. My idea of "reasonable prices" may be different from yours.
Zaragoza and Toledo are far more limited in options then are the other cities you've listed. If you're a Marriott member, there are a number of excellent possibilities, but you'd have to check their website. NH hotels also offer a good selection throughout Spain, but not all are in the best locations. |
I would not recommend the hotel I just used in Madrid as I didn't care for the location, right on the Puerta del Sol - too crowded and touristy. But others might like it.
In Barcelona I stayed in an AirBnB apartment in the Eixample, and I much preferred it to the area near the Ramblas where I stayed in 2004. |
In Valencia, we used airbnb last summer and stayed with Vicente. Great host, clean bathroom, kitchen and room.

Thank our for your responses. We are two travelers, my wife and I. Our budget would be around $150 per night for accommodations ~ EU160. I understand that prices in Madrid and Barcelona will be higher than in the other cities we plan on visiting.
