Accommodations in German/Austrian Alps
We, 2 adults 3 children, will be passing through the German/Austrian Alps on our way to Venice. Can anyone recommend good places to stay overnight, or good web sites for this area?

Some towns I like in Germany are Mittenwald, Garmisch, Berchtesgaden and the Konigssee and Kitzbuhel (Austria).

This depends in part on whether you are starting in Bavaria, or further west.
I'd propose Reutte and surrounding area (specifically Hotel Erenberg in Breitenwang) or Hall in Tirol - - but it really depends on whether you are planning on going by way of Brenner Pass or through Salzburg (or other choices, I think). Best wishes, Rex |
I liked Garmisch-Partenkirchen to stay in...I thought Partenkirchen was cuter then the Garmisch side...and it is also a bit closer to the train station. There are alot of good hikes to do there and it is fun going up the Zugspite. Mittenwald was also a nice town. I didn't like Innsbruck as much...it is a pretty city and does have alot of shopping. I liked alpbach which is a small cute town. http://europeforvisitors.com/austria/

Enroute to Venice your best mountain destination is the Val Gardena in the Dolomites of north Italy--just south of the Brenner Pass. Search under that name for their excellent web site.
