Accommodations in Edinburgh

My wife and I are planning a road tour through Scotland beginning 7/20. We plan on starting in Edinburgh for two nights and were looking for some suggestions whether it be B&B, hotel or castle. We're looking to max out at about $300 (dollars) and would love something with a real Scottish flavor. Any other suggestions for a driving itenerary for 8 days would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the response. I actually emailed you after seeing your name on this site. Anyway we are planning to fly into Glasgow 7/20 and drive to Edinburgh for a couple of nights (actually lodging availability isn't too great so we may start somewhere else). After that we are pretty much up in the air about where to go. We love the historic places as well as anything that contains some outdoor fun and definately one round of golf. We fly from Glasgow on the 28th. Basically looking to see as much of Scotland as possible in eight days without selling ourselves too short. I've heard that your towns are so friendly I won't want to move around too quickly.

Thanks.. Dave

Hi Dave -

I went to Edinburgh last fall, and used the Edinburgh Lothians tourist board to book a B&B. I told them how much I wanted to pay, the kind of accomodations I wanted, etc., and ended up with a lovely little B&B (although not terribly Scottish in flavor, I'm afraid) within walking distance of the city center. You can find their contact information at this link:
http://www.edinburgh.org/

go to bedandbreakfast.com. Also, call 22 Murrayfield Gardens - nice B&B in Edinburgh.

We just came back from 3 nights in Edinbough and highly recommend The Adam Hotel, 19 Landsdowne Cresent. Just a block from Haymarket Train Station and bus stop or about a 15 minute walk to the heart of town. 90 British Pounds a night. Found the hotel via the Smooth Hound UK Hotel & Guest House Directory web site. Alex, the manager is as Scottish as they come and an excellent host.

I would suggest The George, right in town center one block from the main drag, Princes Street. Also, for your tour I would go on the Whisky Trail, interesting distillery tours and beautiful scenery. We never make reservations as we find loads of terrific accomodations as we meander through the country.
