Accommodation recommendation needed
 

I am finalizing plans for a week in Croatia. Need to decide where to spend 3 nights on the Istrian Pennisula, I will be coming from Plitvice Lakes. My 3rd night will probably be in Rovinj since I will be taking the ferry to Venice early morning. Also, I will be spending 2 nights in the Zadar region. Should I stay in Zadar or Nin? Any recommendations for B&B?

These are VERY different places. Zadar is a lively university town with an old core that is (I believe) larger than many "old towns" in Croatia and with sites of interest dating from Roman times to the late 20th century.

The historic core of Nin is very interesting and very small. It can be seen in just a few hours at most, and that's if you linger at its few (but worthy) sites.

If you are driving, it will probably be harder to navigate into/out of Zadar, and you might need to spend some time on public transportation to get into/out of the historic core.

I definitely want to visit both places. It sounds like I should plan on keeping my car parked and taking a bus or taxi wherever we go. We are 3 girls (older women, 50-60). Are the taxis a good option? Would it be a good idea to hire a driver/guide, or explore on our own?

For Zadar, I believe you'll have to find a place to park your car (I can't help you with that - I took a bus there and picked up a rental car on my way out), take public transportation to the old town, and then walk. I don't believe cars are allowed in the old town except for residents, deliveries, etc.

For Nin, there is (or at least there was in 2009) a public parking lot just outside the bridge into the old town. You can walk from there. As I said, it's TINY.

I found it very easy to explore both on my own (with the help of a good guide book or two). I don't think a driver or guide would be necessary, although some people prefer them.
