Accommodation - London, Lyon and Annecy
Hi I'm looking for suggestions on affordable accommodation this summer. My sister and I are traveling during July and August . Our budget is 50euros each a night (or 100 combined) Are open to clean hostels. Location and easy access to transportation are important.
London: Would like a hostel for the purpose of a self serving kitchen. Was looking into Hyde Park kensington area. Is this a good location? 6 nights Lyon: Either an affordable hotel or hostel. Preferably in the old part. 3 nights Annecy: Would like to be in Vieux Annecy. Which of the following are the best options 6 nights Auberge Lyonnaise Le Jardin du Chateau Hotel de Chateau other options? |
www.booking.com
best site best lodgings ranked by recent honest reviewes. www.hostelz.com for hotels guest houses only one that does not censor baddies Hostels are mostly youth/party experiences not conducive to lots of sleep also www.londontown.com good london values. Careful research yields better experience. |
For Lyon, I recommend Hôtel La Résidence. Right off Place Bellecoeur in the old pedestrian area.

The Hotel La Residence is a great choice. If you want to spend a bit less, there's a very nice, recently renovated youth hostel in the old town in Lyon, just up a hill overlooking the cathedral, old town and presqu'ile. It's in a great location.

Thanks for the responses. Texastrips, did you stay at the Lyon hostel? I am having a hard time getting information about its facilities and cleanliness other than the great location. Because we are in Lyon for only 3 nights we would like to find a budget place to balance the higher cost of some other places.

I've stayed at two of the Astor hostels in London (astorhostels.com) - both were clean and I'd recommend them. I've stayed in the Museum and Victoria locations, and recommend the Museum one just because of the location. (Victoria is convenient too - for me, it's just hard to beat the location of the Museum location!)
With a budget of 100E and six nights in London, you *might* be able to find an apartment, though. Others have more knowledge than I do, but if you do a search for "London apartment" here, you'll find lots of sites and options. |
Hulio,
I haven't stayed there but I know several people who have and found it fine. I've actually been in one day when I needed to borrow for a phone to make a call (long story....). I thought the reviews on the site link I sent you seemed to confirm what my sense was from these sources. |
Hostels aren't just for the younger party crowd; we were in our 40s when we visited the UK, and we enjoyed all our hostel stays except London.
Take a look at www.yha.org.uk for London hostels. Not all of them have self-catering kitchens, so be sure to check the facilities list. I wish we had chosen a YHA hostel for London. :-) Lee Ann |
Instead of hotel, why don't you book a studio apartment? It would be much cheaper.
