Accommodation in Provence

I will be travelling to France in September and am looking for advise for accommodation in Marseilles and Aix-en-Provence. Can anyone suggest an average price hotel in Aix that is very central for me to stay as a single traveller? Also, in Marseilles, is it better to find a hotel at the port or in the city, and a hotel recommendation too please...... and thank you

I stayed near the port in Marseille but the hotel was higher end (HOtel Beauvau) I loved it, but probably higher cost than you want. There are many cheaper ones. I think being near the port is very very convenient. First, you can just walk to lots of stuff, and if not, there is a metro stop right there (or buses). Also, there are lots of open-air cafes all around it (or just a bit off it, I liked some to the east a bit). I was there for fete nationale and they do the fireworks right there so I could actually see them for once, compared to wherever I've been in other cities. Prices are very reasonable for hotels there. YOu could check out these, I was considering them and know they are good locations and mid-range

As for Aix, I haven't stayed there in a moderate hotel right in the center in years, but when I did I stayed in the HOtel Cardinal which I really liked. Very good location in the center.

It's sort of old/funky, depends if you like that or not. I did (it was comfortable, and some modern hotels actually are not, in terms of beds). It's only a 2*, but seems to still have pretty good ratings on TA, etc.

YOu could check out the Artea, which is very well-located and mid-priced. I didn't stay there, just have heard it was pretty good.
