accommodation advice, italy

Going to Rome in November. Nothing booked.
Can anyone advise of good hotel in Rome, walking distance to best sightseeing. Probably spend 6 days Rome and then want to go down to Amalfi Coast. Where should I stay there? Sorrento or Positano? Once again, looking for a good Hotel. Planning about 4 nights in Amalfi. Looking for 4-5 star hotel in Rome and Amalfi. Thanks for your advice?

well nothing is walking distance to all the major sites - but before anyone can give you reasonable siggestions they'd need to know you approx. nightly budget.

I'm assuming he's talking $400 to $750 a night for a 4 or 5 star in Rome?

A good start is to go to trip adviser and look at their list to narrow it down to price and user reviews. After you create a list of acceptable according to that forum, you can then investigate other forums to further narrow it down.

Thanks for reply. OK. Maybe I should look at 3-4 star accommodation $200-$300 a night is OK! Any suggestions?

Well, I booked a room at the Concordia for mid September. I'll let you know how it was after I get back in October.
