Access blocked?
For about the last 3 weeks, when I try to view this discussion board, everything will appear except the actual discussion headings, so I can't access the posts. This has happened both on my computer at work (I have no reason to believe the IT guys would block my access on purpose) and also at a computer at a friend's house. Any ideas on what is up and how to fix it? THanks!

Do you have cookies enabled. Mime disappeared las week, don't know how and I couldn't either.
About to reveal total ignorance: how do I make sure that the cookies are enabled? (Fortunately, I do know what they are....)
I'm inept on the computer but some virtual friend guided me to tools, internet options, and click the security tab and you'll see what you have enabled. Otherwise you type in fodors.com and click allow. I hope it helps you as it did me, Heather.

Make sure you click on sugar cookies and gingersnap cookies. Then click on "with milk" when that option pops up. Leave "with ice cream" unchecked since that is an advanced function that your computer might not support.
Lordy, Degas!! I think you have had enough sugar!! you are on a tear tonight ((L))
Scarlett, I was struck with divine inspiration after reading that wonderful description of you on another post!
Wow, it's getting deep in here. Reading this makes me want to toss my cookies, not click them away.
Oh Patrick, you are just being jealous!
Stop being a grouch and get into the cookie mood! If you want to be helpful, you can post on my thread on the US boards...I am being pathetic over there. |
Meanwhile, DEGAS!!
Was that not the nicest thing that Calamari said?? I was so touched ~ Now I dare not meet anyone, lest they be terribly disappointed! |
You last two posters have the hots for each other but stop busting bills on someone posting for advice.
" busting bills"?? Sorry beans, I don't speak your language.
Heather, I had that problem for a second time tonight but on the BJParis forum. They said I had no cookies. How could that be when I'm a regular member. It's something that's doing it that I can't explain.
How dare they say "you have no cookies". There is a terrific new bra at VS that will make them eat their words!
OOPS! Wrong kind of cookies. Please disregard.
calamari, you cookie crumbler, you!
Well, I have now tried adjusting every control in Internet Options separately and in every conceivable combination, and I still cannot access the posts at work! Other computers in my building can, and I don't know what else to try. ANY more suggestions?
If you have a firewall, you may also need to check to see if it has an option to restrict or control cookies. I have ZoneAlarm on my computer at home, and on some sites I have to change the cookie control options for the site to work.
Firewall?
Talk about having the hots for each other!!! |
Firewall? Yes. You need one, especially if you have a cable modem connection. You are vulnerable everytime you turn on your computer because you are constantly on line. I use Zone Alarm also. I hope it keeps some of the "casual" hackers out. I keep my IE Privacy Cookies at "Medium." ((b))
I had a firewall (Zone Alarm) in operation for one month. During that month, nothing on my computer worked properly. It was a major problem to use it, and so many functions were crippled. I guess hackers couldn't get in. But then I barely could either. Now I take my chances without a firewall.

Everytime the subject of computer cookies comes up, I decide to take another run at controlling them, because it just makes me nuts to think that cookies allow strangers to come into my "home," uninvited, and spy on me.
On ZoneAlarm, I have privacy options set up for cookies that remove "private header information." That option prevents third parties from accessing my IP address, workstation name, login name, or other personal information, and a ZoneAlarm message pops up to tell me whenever it has prevented a "private header information" cookie from being deposited on my computer. On Fodors, that message pops up continually unless I turn off the message option in ZoneAlarm. Can some smart techie on this site tell me why Fodors needs to communicate my private information to "third parties?" In the end, despite my fear and loathing of cookies, especially those a site like Fodors allows 3rd parties to stash on my computer to track what I'm doing, I end up lifting the restrictions because some of my favorite sites won't work unless cookies are fully enabled. So we can say, "Make sure cookies are fully enabled," but there are consequences to doing that - namely, a sacrifice of one's privacy. |
