Actually, it was the one and only time I have ever taken good jewelry and it was a bad decision and an expensive lesson to learn. Now I do not even wear my engagement ring when I travel, just a band.

Sorry that my/our advice proved even more expensive. Please don't let this ruin the museum experience. Look on the bright side, you weren't paying for (or were getting a nice starpoints discount) on the hotel, which would more than make up for the extra fees they tacked on.

Next time in Florence, try staying at the Relais Cavalcanti. ;-)
