Absolute can't miss restaurants

OK, I'm overwhelmed! We're going to Florence, around the rest of Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast (including Capri) and Rome in October and are looking for some great restaurants, both casual and fancy. Everyone has posted so many great options I'm overwhelmed with the choices. Does anyone have any suggestions on places not to be missed?

We had a wonderuful casual meal at Osteria Dell Agnolo in Florence. Their website is http://www.deliciousitaly.com/osteria-agnolo.htm for more info. We also enjoyed going there for just wine and cichetti.

I've also heard a lot of raves about La Giostra, but we missed out on it during our recent trip. http://www.florence.ala.it/giostra/

Good luck and be sure to post a trip reprot when you return!

Dear swalter,

You wrote,

This is why we have a Search Function. So that we don;t have to repeat the previous suggestions.

Do you need help searching?

NO, I know how to use the search function Ira, but the trip reports that they pull up all make everything sound good and I just was wondering if people have one "can't miss" that they would recommend. Thanks for the offer of help though.

Rome: Checchino dal 1887 (expensive)Da Baffetto (pizza) San Crispino (gelato)
Florence: Cibreo (expensive, or try their trattoria next door)Osteria No.1 (moderate but they have the most sublime dessert which I think is called "Bongo").
Capri: Ristorante Hotel Villa Brunella
Positano: La Sponda (hotel Le Sirenuse, expensive) Da Costantino (in Montepertusso above Positano, moderate) Chez Black
Ravello: Cumpa di Cosima (moderate)

I have posted on this and other boards my enthusiastic recommendation of Il Ritrovo, a block or so from the duomo in Florence at Via de' Pucci 4/A. Rosetta is a strikingly beautiful former model and her husband excels in the kitchen. Order the Bistecca Fiorentina only if you're really hungry.

Florence, La Girostra. Rome, the Sabatini Restaurant in the Trestavere section. Both were excellant.

Maybe someone can second or third a few options.

Villa San Michele for Fiesole (Florence) just up above the city enough to provide a view to die for.

Best wishes,

Rex

Take a look at some of the restaurant reviews on the www.slowtrav.com

Your real problem in Italy is finding a BAD restaurant!!! Fresh linens on the tables of simple cafes, waiters dressed in style, flowers on the table!! Respect to the customer and a leisurely pace. Go on, just have fun and read the menu at the door and take a chance and then report to us!!!!Tourist traps are a great and fun challenge!! That's the fun of eating in Italy!!! Buon fortuna!!!! buon appetito!Report back!!

That's BuonA as I have corrected!!!
Now have fun!!

Hi,
If you are visiting the Amalfi Coast, visit the Ristorante San Giovanni in Pontone which is just across the valley from Ravello & can be reached by bus or Taxi from both Amalfi or Ravello.
After lunch on the terrace get the owners to direct you to the Torre dello Ziro to experience the best viewpoint along the whole Amalfi Coast.
