Abruzzo

I want to plan a trip to the Pescara area and can find very little information in any of the guidebooks. In particular, I would like to see my family roots in Pescosansonesco and wonder about hotels ans sights in this area. Any leads will be greatly appreciated.

The only guide I have ever found with any amount of information on the Abruzzo region has been the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Italy. It's available in most bookstores. The other piece of information I can offer is a website: http://www.emmeti.it/Welcome/Abruzzo/index.uk.html. Hope this helps.

Luciano,

I did a little digging for you - using my Michelin road map, Michelin red and, best of all for this, the Cadogan Italy book. There's a section called "The Via Valeria: Pescara to Rome" that talks about villages Torre de' Passari and San Clemente in Casauria, both of which are near Pescosansonesco. (It seems that the capital of confetti nut making is Sulmona, also near your town - a little known fact!!)

It says that the best place to stay in Chieti is the Dangio' [011 39 (0871) 347 356)]

The National Park is the 2nd largest in Italy. There are tourist offices in Tagliacozzo (011 39 0863 610318), Sulmona (0864) 53276 and Pescocostanzo. There seems to be a small hotel in Pescocostanzo called Le Torre 011 39 (0864) 642 024.

Good luck - e-mail me if you want additional info...

Dona

I found info on the web about the area, and was hoping I could get first hand accounts from someone who'd visited the region (it appears to be a hidden corner of Italy with few tourists).
