anthony, I appreciate all opinions but especially want to thank you for the fantastic videos. I think on my next trip I will visit both!

Thank you, Mary. If you are pressed for time on your next visit, I'd suggest the rue Montorgueil first. And if you have time to visit the rue Cler, do it on a Thursday or Saturday so that you can visit the open food market near the place de Breteuil at the same time (it's not far away, and perhaps more authentic than the rue Cler).
While sites like Fodor's receive a huge amount of traffic, they still reach only a tiny fraction of the traveling public. And I have a sneaking suspicion that globetrotters who read travel books don't visit travel sites on the Web that much, and vice versa. So a restaurant that takes advantage of foreign tourists can get away with it for a very long time, even if word about its poor quality gets around in certain limited circles. In the same way, I can warn people about the rue Cler here all day long, and yet the vast majority of RS fans will continue to visit it, anyway. I once overheard a tourist couple in the Latin Quarter asking a waiter how to get to the rue Cler, and he had never even heard of it. So much for the alleged miracle mile of the City of Light. |
