Hi.. have you checked the hotel reviews on Tripadvisor? People seem to love the Eldorado enough to overlook its non-central location...

Both are on good metro lines; Riviera is in a more upscale area that will also be quieter. Neither area would be my choice for a first timer. If you chose Riviera, two good restaurants within walking distance are Le Petit Acacia and Le Cercle du 17eme.

why both choices are not a good option for a first time in paris?

This is of variable importance to people visiting Paris: when I last checked, the Eldorado did not have televisions in the rooms.

Neither are in areas close to many of the typical tourist attractions; however if you don't mind a lot of walking,or riding on the metro or bus, it shouldn't be a problem. Much depends on your age and personal interests. In Paris, you won't get more than you pay for.
