ABC are you out there? seeking Turkey advice
I am considering a 12 day trip to Turkey. I would probably like to spend the first 2 nights in Instanbul. I would then like to go to a beautiful beach area that is not too overdeveloped. Then maybe a few days on a nearby Greek island. Probably the last night is Istanbul to fly out of. I would like to see Esphedsus (Sp.??) Can ABC or anyone out there recommend a possible itinerary/places to go??? Even a recc. for a neighboring Greek island would be great. Rhodes sounds overdeveloped, I would like a quieter place with good beaches. Thanks!!! Please don't tell me to go buy books, do searches etc. This is my first step in gathering info.

What time of the year are you going? One of the prettiest places I have been to in Greece is Lindos on Rhodes. It is full of white sugar cube houses. The "streets" are so narrow that there are no cars or buses there. They have to park in the outskirts. The only transport is by donkey!! However I would not go there in July or August as it will be full of day trippers( but a lot better at night!). We went in October. Although I would not stay in Rhodes Town, the old part is beautiful and well worth a visit. So if you are going May, June, September(second half) or October I would recommend Lindos.

Fiona-I am planning to go in the beginning of June. Does Rhodes have nice beaches? Is a car necessary?

3km SW of Lindos is Pefkos and has a good beach. It is also a lot quieter than Lindos but a short taxi ride from it. I dare you to not like Lindos!! The beach at Lindos is good but a lot busier( although June should be a little less hectic). Also 7km from Lindos is Lardos with a typical Greek village atmosphere and a long sand and shingle beach. It is very quiet at night.
If you stay in Lindos and find the beach a bit too busy for you there is a smaller, quieter beach just 1km away.
Avoid at all costs Faliraki and Ixia. They both have good beaches but are full of teenagers on their first trips away from their parents!! They are often described as "young and lively"- translated that means loud and drunk!!!

Forgot about the car question. Personally I have never felt the need to hire a car there but everyone's different!
