AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! School Holidays!!!?????

Oh, no. Someone mentioned that April is a school holiday month (I think it was Ben Haines). Why in the world do they ever let those little bugers loose on the world. Can anyone tell me when the holidays are in April so I can avoid them?

Thanks for any help. I had some punctuation marks left over from a term paper I did on Emanuel Kant several years ago and had been saving them, but as they earn no interest, just thought I'd share them with everyone in the message title. It seemed appropriate at the time.

one suspects that when YOU were a little buger/bugger you never enjoyed any school holidays, hence your hostility towards innocent kids and their families.
In the words of John Stossel - "give me a break!"
p.s. I know when the holidays are - but I think I'll keep it to myself...

sandi Feb 19th, 2000 02:27 PM

Well, we nominate Cyrano as a charter member in the Foder's "get a life" club for his enlightenment. P.S. Do little "buggers" grow up to be big "Boogers", and if so, "only the Nose Knows".

If you want a serious answer I would expect the school holidays in the UK correspond to Easter time and what the schools call Spring Break here. Easter comes fairly late this year, April 23rd. Of course spring break in many places is in March and then the kids get off again around Easter for a few days too in the U.S. - perhaps someone in the UK can give actual dates for break there, actually I would be curious to know myself as we will be in London over Easter this year.

To the porn person (xxx):
I have no hostility towards the innocent children, only the guilty ones and I certainly have no hostility towards their parents. I have only sympathy for them.

Cyrano Feb 19th, 2000 08:49 PM

To sandi:
Thanks for your understanding. Certainly the term paper on Kant was the low point in my life. But fortunately I have not had to do another BORING thing since. Please excuse the shouting, but I HATE BOREDOM, and have managed to escape it since Kant.

Are you related to e. e. cummings?

Myriam Feb 19th, 2000 11:11 PM

In Belgium easter holidays are from 8th until 24th April 2000. Don't know for the other Euro countries.

Cyrano Feb 20th, 2000 06:08 AM

To Lori:
The kids get two weeks off around Easter, but I'm not sure of the exact dates. Perhaps Myriam's information about Belgium applies to England as well.
Thanks for the information.
Take a hint!....either you were born an adult, or had a horrible childhood. Why should children not be exposed to the rest of the world. Do you want them to grow up and be ignorant like you?

Cyrano Feb 20th, 2000 06:27 AM

To aaaarrrggghhh:
Talk about ignorant! (oops, another one of those extra punctuation marks). You can't even spell your nickname properly. It's spelled Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!. But you are right. I had a horrible childhood, writing papers on Kant.

Sheila Feb 20th, 2000 06:47 AM
Dear all,

Because Easter is so late this year, the Scottish school holidays, which are not necessarily the same as the English ones (or even as each other, from authority to authority) are the first 2 weeks in April

And Dear Cyrano, I do sympathise with your seeking to avoid children with whom you have no direct connection. It affects me that way too.

Kavey Feb 20th, 2000 08:11 AM

Sheila, Cyrano,

Me Three...

Having just spent a week in Fuerteventura ,in the Gran Canaries, for work, during half term (in UK anyway) and having the great misfortune to have to stay in a superfamily hotel, I can safely say I would want to avoid such a scene on my own holidays...

frank Feb 21st, 2000 06:51 AM

Although most people claim to like children, in fact they only like THEIR OWN children who are more important than
anything else (especially YOUR children but including your safety & sanity).
I try to avoid school hols when travelling.
It's not so much the crazy irrational parents, I think the worst thing is the reminder of just how horrid I was at that age.

Jane Feb 22nd, 2000 12:44 AM

Uk school holidays in April vary a bit from school to school. My son is off from 5th April to 26th April and then has half term holiday in first week of June.

Cyrano Feb 23rd, 2000 03:18 PM

Thanks everyone for the information. It appears the last week of April will be safe from school holidays. I know May 1 is a holiday, but one can survive a few days of crowded venues, and even enjoy them with proper planning, but would hate to spend a full two weeks trying to avoid crowds.

Thanks, again, for the information.

sandra Feb 26th, 2000 02:43 AM

Sorry to disappoint you but my kids go to school in Essex England and their school hols are 17th April to 1st May
so i think is safe to say dont go away in April.

Judy Feb 26th, 2000 03:01 PM

Well - this has been an interesting thread to read through..... BUT - could someone seriously enlighten me as to the problem with school hols in England, Belgium, Holland, where I will be spending the month of April?????

I would have thought running into busloads of students on day trips would be more of a problem - I've had that experience......

Thanks for any info you feel inclined to pass on. philosophe Feb 28th, 2000 02:04 PM

Say, is this Emanuel Kant you mention any relation to Immanuel Kant, the philosopher?

Cyrano Mar 3rd, 2000 08:00 AM

Philosophe:

Yes, indeed, Emanuel Kant and Immanuel Kant are the same person, and Immanuel has often been described as a philosopher. Others, who describe themselves as the "true lovers of philosophy," in fear that association of Kant to their discipline have described him only as a German writer--and have changed the spelling of his first name to Emanuel. This was the topic of my paper, "Emanuel and Immanuel Kant" some thirty years ago, and it was so traumatic that while other papers I wrote then have faded from memory, that one remains steadfast. It has a clamp on my brain like an alien attached to my face, depositing its wretched eggs which spew forth from my throat periodically.

But I don't understand what this has to do with travel to Canterbury in April.
