AAA card?
OK..I'm down to the wire...getting packed and pulling credit cards etc. A question, is there any reason at all I would take my AAA card to Italy?
Well, that depends on what kind of arrangement the Italian Auto Club (their version of AAA) has with AAA. I know that the AA in UK has a reciprocal agreement with AAA so that if you are there and driving your AAA card will gain you assistance if you have car trouble just like here. Perhaps the same is true in Italy. Your local AAA office can probably tell you or perhaps a search for the Italian Auto Club if one exists will help. If you are not renting a car I could see no reason to take it.

No- you American AAA card is no good in Europe- ie.wont't do towing for free and you need to be member of the country you are driving in with their travel club.
YES,YES your AAA card is good at some hotels. Go to the aaa.com and it list them.
A little clarification: An AAA card is accepted for discounts at some hotels - the usual US chains.

However - AAA is not accepted for roadside service. But most rental cars include roadside assistance and recovery by the local auto club anyway(such as AA or RAC in the UK)
I used the AAA card in Canada for roadside assistance-- no charge. They have a reciprocal agreement w/ the CAA.
For Terry:
Canada is not in Europe and Tuscany is asking about Italy in Europe.
Thank for sharing, Terry, good to know.
Your AAA card is at least necessary when you drive to and from the airport. What I do is make a paper copy of my AAA and Blue Shield cards, so I have the info without the bulk.
to: a regular-- I thank you for your post; to Prague-- I'll ignore you.
I agree that Prague's comment was out of place.
Terry's post dealt with the use of the AAA card in other countries, as discussed in this thread. Some of us appreciate the information.
As stated above, the Automobile Association in UK (the AA) DOES INDEED have agreement with AAA in USA. Your AAA card is good in UK and gains you all the services you get at home.

I am sorry Tuscany about my comments. I agree my remark was out of place. However, I couldn't resist. My husband and I just came back from Greece and when talking to a young couple about our trip one of them stated that one day they hope to go to Greece because they heard that Africa is a nice place to visit. I was just making a comment on a knowledge of geography. I am sorry to all who found my response out of place. Yes, it was

mmmmm you show some class. I too sometimes have had the urge for a caustic comment, so far I've been able to resist. Wouldn't it be nice if others who sometimes make comments that don't fit would also apologize.
To tuscany, When I was in Germany years ago I was able to get a German auto club card at no charge as they also had a reciprocal agreement with the US AAA. In fact after 7 years in Europe, when I returned to the US, the auto club acknowledged my membership in the German club as continuous membership.
Regards
Art
If yo are travelling with kids, the AAA Card is good a Hard Rock Cafes where they give a discount on food and merchandise, I saw a sign posted in Rome last year.
Tuscany asked about Italy!!!! ...would I take my card to Italy.
Prague has absolutely no reason to appologize. It would help if people would read the question and answer it if they can, not answer some other question that wasn't asked just because that's all they know.
Tuscany, I can tell you that it would be a waste of space to take your AAA card to China.
An innocent (non-caustic) question for Wendy:
Why would go all the way to Rome and go to a Hard Rock Cafe?
Howard:

Maybe because you get to use your AAA card there?
Answerthequestion - You suggested that we read the question. Now where in the question does tuscany ask about China.
Art:
My point exactly! She also didn't ask about England, Germany or Canada. She didn't even say she was going to be driving a car.
What's wrong with reminding people of the question as Prague did? Some people don't seen to be able to read well.
