"I don't expect others to take my hand and walk me down to a restaurant"

Yes, but so many fat, lazy, confused, bedazzled, bored, scared, lost Americans just might.

The beginnings of a superb business plan is starting to form in my greedy little mind.

But I need a snappy name.... .

Maybe I am just more considerate? When I did my one and only dining report on this forum over a year ago on Hong Kong, I have address and directions how to get there. Take a look:

Degas, "pig in a poke" is the first thing that came to mind . . . not sure it'd attract too many clients, but you have to admit, it fits! ;-)

Degas - how about "take a horse to water..."

Degas, Much nicer, I think, would be "I wanna hold your hand!" Add the Beatle song to the sound track and it should appeal hugely to your target clientele...

robjame, I'm still laughing (with you) at your first post. That's exactly what I was thinking when I came across this thread.

"...when I read your title, I thought you perhaps had some great revelation... Do you mean that people actually travel to Paris with the name of a restaurant and perhaps the arrondisement and then begin walking expecting to stumble across it?"

The restaurant recommendations I read on this board were invaluable for me for my trip to Paris. I read all the back and forth, differing opinions, listened for who sounded like they valued similar tings that I did and then cross referenced with other sources. I looked up addresses by Googling retsuarnt names, although many of you kindly provided addresses. I bought STREETWISE PARIS (at your recommendation) so had no trouble finding places that i had the address for. I made one reservation for Le Violin Ingres way in advance and then went to Paris with about 20 restaurants that I thought would be great and then chose where we ended up eating on what mood we were in, where we planned to be that day and sometimes went and checked out the menu before booking. Every restaurant we went to that was recommended on this board was fabulous, the couple of places we "stumbled" into were mediocre at best. But we were in Paris so the ambiance made it still just fine, just not great.

When I wrote my trip report, after taking so much from this board, I tried to give as much detail as possible, including addresses, prices and fairly detailed restaurant and food descriptions. I try to give the kind of details that had helped me.

Here's the link to my report:

My boss replies:

It is up to you to do research if you come across a restaurant suggestion on this forum. If you have the name of the restaurant, you can do a Google search to find out its location. If the OP has just given you the area the restaurant is in, and you can't find any mention of it on Google, you can always ask someone at your hotel.

You can also ask employees of your hotel where the locals eat. They will always have some good suggestions.

I also agree with the poster who stated that some of the best places are the ones you happen to stumble across.

The PageJaunes works wonders. It can provide detailed locations of most restaurants in France.

It's easier if you understand French but it's still workable for English only readers.

Give it a try.
