A week in the Dordogne

This trip, following immediately after our week in the Auvergne (http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...e-auvergne.cfm) was to correct a major oversight: how, after 30-ish trips to France, did I mange to never previously set foot in this region? So armed with the essentials (Michelin Green Guide, and Fodorite advice - notable Stu Dudley's itinerary) off we went. It was as wonderful as expected, and much too short - a return visit of at least a couple of weeks will be needed.

This report is in my usual phototravelogue style, with the report contained as the captions in the following photo albums. They are listed in the order of our visits.

Oradour-sur-Glane (technically in the neighboring Limousin, and the stop on our transition day from Auvergne to Dordogne): https://goo.gl/photos/TFfDTnVA7WHdVibR6

Le Grand Bost (our very pleasant home for the week - for more, see https://www.vrbo.com/8026403ha): https://goo.gl/photos/6xkhn58Z4uazqMmo6

Sarlat-le-Caneda: https://goo.gl/photos/g1HJvSt1hTKKZdyNA

Bergerac: https://goo.gl/photos/kKJgXBo2fTkuy1aK9

Rocamadour: https://goo.gl/photos/Bp5mhuPTBTh5bSEY9

Rouffignac and Lascaux caves (with interior photography unfortunately forbidden):https://goo.gl/photos/PKaaK5PoeHSzvDD68

We did a similar trip about 18 months ago, and love this region of France. We spent 4 nights in Sarlat, and two nights in Brantome. I wish we had more time. Really enjoyed looking at your photos!

SemiMike, really enjoyed your photos! We're presently posting the TR of our recent trip, albeit area by area, having visited some of the same places as you. 30 trips to France... Wow! You must really love it!

We've recently begun using Google for storing photos, so maybe we'll soon be able to post some. "A picture IS worth a thousand words!". Thanks again for sharing yours.

I enjoyed the captions of your photos, it makes for a very interesting report. I also agree with your comment about French pastries (they are gorgeous).

Thanks for posting! Your photos make me want to go back...especially the Jardins de Marqueyssac. We had had a full day by the time we arrived there and did not make it to the belvedere. All your photos are lovely! And I appreciate the information you add.
