Flying into barcelona with my husband for a week in July. Any suggestions on what to do/ where to eat in the city or where to go in surrounding area? day trips? Thanks!

A guidebook would be a good start.

or how about reading suggestions on this (Fodors) website.

Do you really want to do what OTHER PEOPLE find you have to do instead of just doing what YOU like?

Walk around the architecture, eat tapas and sherry, take the cable car across the harbour, visit the olympic stadium, catch a train to Gaudi's workshop, catch a train to the Cava village where Frixenet has its house, catch a train to Miguel Torres winery. Walk the rope walk and try not to be pick pocketed. Lie on the beach.

Crikey, that wasnt a very warm welcome !
Hi blattygirl. Barcelona is a fantastic city. Its a lot bigger than you may think. We had a few days there a while back and I wrote some kind of report on the experience, the link is below. Hope it works. http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ember-2011.cfm Hope this can start you off on your hunt for what you like. 2 tips from me. 1. take the open top hop on/off bus first. 2. Watch out for pickpockets Mucky |
Day trips: out to the Monastery at Montserrat. The train from saintes Station in Barcelona pulls in alongside the monastery. You can then take the small funicular train to the top of the peak next to the site.
The Cava village that bilbo refers to is called San Sadurni d'Anoia and most of the large Cava houses have their HQ's there. The vineyards themselves are just outside of the town, but there may or may not be anything worth seeing depending on the time of year. July won't have that much going on in the vineyards themselves. I'd recommend the HQ for Juve y Camps in the town. They aren't a big pushy tour and if you have any interest in how wine is made, it's a fascinating visit, but you do need to book in advance. http://www.juveycamps.com/ingles/index.htm As far as "what to do" or "where to eat" is concerned, there's loads of information in this forum.Search in the top right box on this page. |
