A warning for the Americans headed to Amsterdam
State Department Warns Americans Traveling Abroad To Avoid Lame Amsterdam Windmill Tour
http://tinyurl.com/z4xvl9g <i>WASHINGTON—In an urgent warning posted online Wednesday by the U.S. State Department, American citizens traveling to the Netherlands were strongly advised to avoid the “extremely lame” Amsterdam windmill tour. “We have received specific information from credible sources suggesting that this tour is a stupid waste of time, and we advise U.S. citizens not to blow any of their money on it under any circumstance,” the alert read in part, cautioning that the historic wooden structures, while quintessentially Dutch, are not nearly as large or impressive as one might expect, and that “once you’ve seen one, you’ve pretty much seen them all.” “We highly recommend that Americans alter their plans accordingly to avoid the lousy five-hour excursion to visit a bunch of dumb windmills. U.S. citizens should be aware that by taking the tour, they put themselves at significant risk of being bored as hell.” State Department officials added that if any travelers find themselves ripped off by an afternoon-long windmill tour that doesn’t even include lunch, they should contact the U.S. embassy immediately.</i> A little bit of Wednesday light-heartedness for you. :D |
They didn't say anything about the beer yet.
They should have. Drink one Heineken, you are already bored. Go to intelligent Dutch (it exists) who have belgian beer : Grimbergen, Leffe, Witte wan Hoegaarden or even Jupiler will compensate for the bore of the windmills ! Don't waste your time in Netherlands, you have it all, better, in Belgium. |
Belgium is one of my top two countries in Europe. Germany is #3.

Dutch bier is doing just fine at the moment.
http://www.cambrinus.nl/brw/BROUWJR.HTM The NL has around 422 breweries with 38 new ones undertaking production this year. http://www.bieretiketten.nl/maps/nl/ |
we spent a very happy evening in a bar in Delft [my mum wasn't quite so happy as she doesn't drink beer] trying as many of the hundreds of beers that they had on offer. They even had a beer menu describing their various attributes.
Sadly I can't remember what it was called, but if the Nieuwe Kerk is behind you to your right, the bar is in the top LH corner of the square. So don't diss the Dutch beer! |
Heineken is just the mass-made crap the Dutch export to trick Americans. It doesn't work anymore. The craft brew revolution has put American beers where they should be - boasting some of the world's best.

I think Belgium makes the finest beer in the world, personally. Dupont, De Ranke, Rodenbach are some of my favorites, off the top of my head. The Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux might be my favorite beer of all, although it's really hard to choose just one.
Sorry for the digression, it's a hot day here... |
I agree with NewbE. I have about a case and a half of Westvleteren aging.
|
Oh, sparky, which one??
|
The 12, of course! I have some 8 as well (those get consumed quicker).
|
Belgium is one of my top two countries in Europe.> Crooked Donald Trump just said on TV "Belgium is an interesting city" and you call it a country!
|
Silly me.
|
The 12, I should have known! I am jealous to death.
|
We stopped at a monastery in Belgium just for the beer and my wife never returned.
After visiting The Netherlands a few years ago when, I spoke to some people at DOS about the food. They said that they knew of the problem and were appealed at the standard lunch choices and other culinary traditions. They did, however, broach the matter with The Hague, not the International Court as a war crime, but the Dutch government as a matter of general civility but soon decried the friendship of The Netherlands was of greater importance. |
Trappistes Rochefort 10 and could not believe how cheap it was. We do have some great beer in the US now.
|
OMG, I saw the title and thought, what now....as my flight to Amsterdam leaves in 2 hours!! Whew! Not planning any windmill tours, thank goodness!!
