A visit to Big Ben and The Queen Mother
 

Hello Everyone. I am visiting London for the first time the 2nd week of March and I am trying to get hotel reservations through priceline.com. I am being asked though to narrow down my london neighborhood choices down to three and I have no idea how to go about it. I want to be in the center of everything but I want to pay reasonable rates. Is that a pipedream? Any help would be sooooo appreciated. Thanks much guys!!

tammy: I ahve never used PriceLine so I don't know what they call "neighborhoods". But if these are some of your choices they are all nice areas, central to everything, and you can easily get rooms in your price range (or less)<BR><BR>- Kensington<BR>- South Kensington<BR>- Bloomsbury<BR>- Knightsbridge (a little pricier)<BR>- Mayfair (ditto on pricier)<BR><BR>There are a lot of other good areas but these will all meet your needs

My favorite area is the south kensington neighborhood. its hotels run the gamut from the cheap and rundown to the expensive and fabulous. But be careful as there is a lot of mugging going there. Don't look like a tourist please.

I second the suggestion to use www.londontown.com. We reserved the Millennium Bailey's through Londontown.com last October. The rate w/o VAT was 60 pounds for 2 people. Great hotel, incredible location. Directly across the street from the Gloucester tube station. The neighborhood was nice, several restaurants and grocery stores nearby.<BR><BR>Have fun! Marla

Checked londontown.com for 2nd week of March and came up with 76 pounds for the Willett Hotel near sloan Square, 85 pounds for the Mornington near Hyde Park, and 64 pounds for 20 Nevern Square near Earl's Court. All great hotels at good prices. Of course, these rates would have to be confirmed by the hotels but I recently got an 84 pound rate at the 4* Rubens Hotel near Buckingham Palace for May. Not shabby!

Hi Tammy, when I did Priceline, I did a 4 star in the Mayfair/Soho area, and got the Thistle Charing Cross for 105$ a nightat the end of March. A lot of people love the S.Ken. area... I just wanted something closer to the theater district.<BR>Also, I checked out expedia and found some good rates too. Londontown.com has very good specials too.<BR>FYI, Judy
