A tribute to seven extraordinary "travelers"
Let's keep in mind how minor our problems are when we experience any problem with a flight.

All best thoughts to families and anyone involved with NASA and the space programs of any country on earth.

Rex
[email protected]
Yes, Rex....you are right. My heart goes out to them.
Good title Rex -- travelers they were. May their souls rest peacefully.
They were seven definitely incredible people. I echo President Bush's thought that they truly are home now.
Rex,
Well said.

One day, maybe not too far off, some of us will be comparing notes and arguing on the Fodor's Space travel board. If so, we'll remember these people for helping to pave the way. And maybe reminding people we all live on one planet.

If this isn't travel related, nothing is.
I loved Dr. Brown's last comment before taking off on mission, when commenting on a friend of hs who had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro": "I plan to go a lot higher with a lot fewer steps."

They were real heroes and a testamant to American prowess in the area of space exploration. Wandering around Europe seems awfully tame by comparison. I hope Americans continue to support the always underfunded Space Shuttle programs so we can continue to explore beyond the boundaries of earth.

May they rest among the stars.
We, in Israel, feel great sorrow too. We have lost Colonel Ilan Ramon. A great pilot!
Our first Astronaut.
Meira
A tribute indeed to seven travelers who seemed to be guided by the same pioneering spirit and courage than its forebears. A sad day for the world. May their souls continue on.
Adding my thoughts to a perfect memorial...

These are our trailblazers... those who have given their lives in order to make our futures brighter. They are our heroes, those that have given their souls to make ours happier. We owe our futures to their sacrifices, and the sacrifice of those who have gone before them in the space program.

I look forward to the day when the shuttle fare to the moon is the topic of discussion... all thanks to these heroes.
Let's just be sure we keep their dream alive. Please don't let the detractors use this as an argument to shutdown the entire space program.
Offered up, one more time for the weekday crowd.
I heard yesterday that Colonel Ilan Ramon's last email to his wife (from space) said that he "loved it up here. I never want to leave."

I heard and felt the bangs and rumbles that morning (I'm in Dallas). It makes my heart sick to think about it now.
Not to minimize the horrible tragedy of it all, but these travlers at least were able to go doing what they loved doing -- traveling. I only hope when my time comes I shall be as "lucky".
"ad astra per aspera"

...and truly they did.
