A Travel Fanatic
 

Did anyone see the feature on CBS News Sunday Morning about a Travel Fanatic by the name of Alan Oganhauser? Not sure of the spelling of his name, but I was trying to go to his website and can't find it on the CBS Links website. I never heard of him, but he teaches Tourism at some University and can't get over the way he has organized all of his travels in files, on maps, etc.

He apparently has a Website and I would love to go to it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

saw that this morning - he teaches at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles ( pretty sure). Thought his maps were great. I hope to do the same regarding UNESCO sites.

Well, he certainly doesn't believe in a lengthly trip report, does he?

Reminds me of a nieghbor. On his quest to visit every state, he has booked a trip that consisted of only a day. Whatever pops your clutch!

Unfortunately, and very narrow-mindedly, there are actually folks who firmly (mis)believe that some states are only worth a few hours, much less an entire day!

I've heard of Alan before...but it makes me wonder if the professor has had any real travel enjoyment out of some of his arduous whirlwind journeys. Seems that most seasoned travelers on this board would shun that kind of travel...I know I would.
I've been to 49 countries, most extensively, and 49 states, all but one Canadian Province..BUT, this is over a period of 56 years of adult travel, dating from my first overseas trip (courtesy of the Unted States Government, awarding me with two years as a rifle-toting Infantry G.I. in Occupied Japan). I'm not out to set any records, and certainly not to break any...but I and my wives (first wife passed on in ' 91 after being my sweet "co-pilot and navigator" on dozens of trips), have thoroughly loved each and every kilometer and mile, taking mucho time to smell the roses, the foods, the lavender, etc.etc. everywhere we have been.
At a young...(??!!)76, my next jaunt will be as an escort to 16 of my readership on a "footsteps journey" based on my latest historical novel which takes place primarily in c.1900 Romania.(to be a feature film in '06). We're leaving on Oct.17th for Romania and Bulgaria where I've been several times from 1979-1993. Roz and I are extending for an additional week in Berlin which we last visited ten years ago.
Happy travels...but take your time and E-N-J-O-Y...ain't no hurry...y'all probably have a lot more years left than I do, so fill them with exciting, rewarding travel!!

Stu, that trip in October sounds wonderful, I wish I had known about it sooner, a 70+ poster.

For some of us life is like a novel; for others like a checklist. 2 camps that will not really, ever understand each other. At least the checklist people get out of the way quickly so the rest of us can have fun.

Thanks to all for your help! I really can't imagine rushing across the world just to meet certain goals. It's nice to have a plan, but I really prefer spending some time in one place to really check it out a bit and get a little feel for the culture.

It's interesting to just see how he is so organized!! Oh, and I agree "he doesn't believe in lengthy trip reports"! Ha! Ha! I, myself, enjoy reading trip reports, so keep them coming.

This is insane. How would he have the time in a year to actually do this? Even considering the size of some of the states in the eastern US, how do you make 510 or more visits in one year?
