A Taste of Tuscany: Honeymoon Report Part II (Siena, Orvieto, Montalcino)

Greetings! I recently blogged about my honeymoon in Positano and I just finished writing
Honeymoon Report Part II featuring Orvieto, Siena and Montalcino. My report includes lots of pictures and information on hotels, food and sights. I hope you take a minute to check it out and enjoy! All feedback is welcome! http://eatsleeptravel-1.blogspot.com/

Also, you can find my Positano blog in the February archive on my page. Next blog will be Rome. Enjoy!

What a great report!
It warms my heart to see an attractive young couple enjoying some of our favorite haunts from over the years. We had returned to each of your locations just last May--our 17th trip to Italy. I hope you get to go back often.

Bobthenavigator - I never got the opportunity to thank you for your advice for our trip to Italy. This great report brought back all of the great memories which you were a huge part of creating! Thank you so much for all of your advice on my trip a few years ago.

The ceramics in Orvieto look great. We plan to hit Orvieto when we go to Italy in the Fall. I loved the honey tasting...we have gotten into white honey lately. Great pics.

Thank you for your wonderful trip report. One of the best I've read on Fodors. It certainly brought back Italian memories for me. I Love your photos also. What kind of a camera did you use?
Happy travelling.

Thank you Piccolina and Colleen. Colleen, I use a Canon PowerShot SX120. It has a terrible battery life but it takes some great pictures. I am glad my report brought back some memories for you.

Thanks for sharing. I loved your story and pictures. I really liked that you included pictures of your rooms and some food plates as well as the whole scene. It helped put what you were describing into context.

Thanks again!

Oh my goodness Allison you do not know HOW HAPPY I am to have found your blog. I just read all your posts and its pretty crazy how similar your honeymoon was to the trip ( same locations and almost the same amount of days) we are about to take in july! We even booked a few of the same hotels. I have bookmarked your blog and will definitely be taking some of your restaurant recommendations. Thanks so much!

I hit send too soon in all my excitement (haha). How did you find the drive from Sorrento to Tuscany? We are going to be doing the same but in reverse Tuscany to Sorrento. I laughed how you said your back driver tendencies kicked in b/c my husband always gives me heck for that!

Thanks all for the kind remarks about my blog! Griffy, I hope you have a fabulous trip to Italy. We were happy to have the GPS to help us navigate from Sorrento to Pompeii. After we left Pompeii, it was pretty much highway driving. We were both surprised by how mountainous Italy is - very dramatic scenery in the distance. As we approached Tuscany, we began to see more fields, farmland, hill towns in the distance - it was beautiful! If we had more time, I would have preferred to drive the back roads a bit more, much prettier.

I know you guys said you went to the poseidon b/c you wanted to see it, was it worth it? We are currently booked at the poseidon but my indecisiveness wants me to book at the miramare?

The Poseidon is located higher above the beach than the Miramare, 100 steps above the Miramare to the main road. With its pool and beautiful view, it was a romantic/relaxing for a cocktail but I cannot speak to the rooms or the service. It's larger than the Miramare (48 rooms to 16 rooms at the Miramare). Since it was our honeymoon, we were pleased with the privacy from our terrace at the Miramare and I preferred the view from our room. However, if you will be there in July, you might enjoy the pool at Poseidon. I think you will be happy with whichever hotel you choose!
