A Tale of Trois Marches: C, C & C
We're heading to the Aveyron this fall (Conques, Belcastel & Villefranche de Rouergue), with an additional stay in Figeac. Three market daytrip possibilities present themselves but we are aiming to choose just one. Those markets are Carmaux, Caussade and Caylus. Might anyone have any experience regarding all three? Can you compare? An foodie in the area area raved about the Carmaux market, whereas another person's blog rates Caussade as number One. A rare Qercy pastis dessert is apparently only available at the Caylus market.
Any opinions based on having visited? merci bien I am done. The dirty turnip. |
Just a question (been in Carmaux and Caylus for the market): what are you looking for in your market experience? Regional foods and specialties?
|
Hi Menachem,
Thanks for asking. Yes, regional specialties. We will be self-catering again, so we'll be looking for the usual suspects (produce) but also any particular specialties of any sort. As well, added value for us would be such things as: an excellent view, a rare museum, a unique cafe, whatever really. For example, the Limognes market north of Parisot apparently sometimes has a brass trio playing live throughout the day. An additional example would be Provence's Lourmarin market, which in our opinion, had the best-tasting cherry tomatoes (I was born on a tomato farm so trust me on that). We've been to many French markets and have been all over the Lot. Just wanted some extra input. I am done. The discerning cochon. |
