<Did you go on any luge/summerrodelbahn rides?>
You're asking this to the guy who couldn't get his wife up on a cable car?
Actually, no we didn't, but much to my surprise she really wanted to take a dog sled ride up on the Jungfraujoch. Unfortunately it didn't begin until June, and the weather was prohibitive at the time.

I enjoyed your report Budman. Your reports and advice was of great help when we did Ireland 2 years ago. We are planning a trip to BO in July 2007. If one lands in Zurich and stays in Lucern on the way to BO ,is there another city or spot you would suggset on the return,ie so we do not stop in the same place twice. Also if I search the archives will I find any reports on Turkey that you wrote, we are going this August. Thanks.

DOCK, we didn't actually stay in Luzern -- we stayed at Weggis and ferried to/from Luzern. I would start a new thread and ask that question. I got the idea to stay in Weggis from this board. I'm sure there are plenty of small, quaint villages in the area.
Sorry, can't help you with Turkey.

Budman, how interesting that you met Grace! She is always too nice! But don't believe her all the praises ;-)
I would not mind watching 300+ pictures of snow capped mountains, haha
katzen, this route won't help you much. You'll take the ferry from Meersburg to Konstanz for sure, and your route must look totally different. At least as far as Rapperswil. Better start a new thread with this question.

Budman, how did you like Weggis? The Brazilian soccer team and Weggis have been in the papers for the past two weeks. It was a huge event here in Switzerland. I wish I would have gone. I heard the "fest mile" was super and the food terrific.
Where did you stay? How did you like your hotel?
Today I went to Urmiberg from Brunnen with the cable car. Great views and a cute restaurant. It's very much like a grotto. During the winter, they offer fondue. We're planning on going next winter with a group of friends.

Weggis was GREAT!!! We heard about the soccer team and crowds and hoopla a day or so before we left Grindelwald, and I had nightmares & visions of them giving my room away.
We stayed at the SeeHotel Gottard. They couldn't have been more hospitable as we were greeted as their "American Guests" by the owner's wife. Our room was ready, and we checked in about Noon time. She helped us with ferry schedules, etc.
As soon as we checked in, we took the ferry to Luzern. There were huge crowds of locals getting back to Luzern, and thanks to the tip to go first class, we had room to breath once we got on the boat.
That evening before dinner we put on our suits and they provided terry robes to walk across the street to the sauna, pool, and whirlpool. We had dinner right there on the lake, and they again went out of their way to help with the menu, etc. The two days were just a great pleasure.

Good to hear. Thanks for your reply.
Did you know that every hotel room in Weggis was booked because of the Brazilian soccer team and their training? We had to buy tickets to watch them "officially" train. People stood in line over 3 hours to buy tickets. It sold out fast. Actually, the practice was more like a show and they officially trained in a closed stadium away from spectators.

Budman, thank you for posting! I got back less than a week ago and I'm still swamped with things to do and catch up on - I went to SC Friday night to do my new house walk through on Saturday - no time to go through photos or anything yet... (apart from my ballooning ones).
glad you had a good time!

I enjoyed your report Budman- nice, concise writing but more details would also be OK. Thank you.
I hate not getting my luggage on time- I'm glad you succeeded in getting it delivered promptly the next morning to your hotel.

calville, you make me smile. That's exactly what I've been thinking: elaborate, please, Budman. No detail too small for hungry consumers. Don't tell me to get a life, please. I've got one and I need distraction. Merci. J.

cparris, oh, yeah, things changed, but I couldn't change my airline reservations.
calville/jmw44, what kind of details would you like?
The luggage thingy -- I brought 3 changes of underwear plus my toiletries on my carry-on. My wife just one change. She shared by tooth brush and one of my t-shirts as a nighty. I had purchased travel insurance, but since the luggage came within 24 hours, I couldn't claim anything.
Should I go into more detail?

I wrote this trip report kinda/sorta from memory. Kept all receipts though.
Oh, the chocolate!!! The shop was called CasaGrande. It had watches, jewelry, and that sort of junk.
We also found there was one in Grindelwald. Expensive!!! The large box which only contained 24 squares of individual chocolates costs 22 Sfr. My wife told me she brought a few pieces for her close friends at work, and one of the ladies commented that "it was better than sex." OK???

FYI: For anyone interested, it is possible to go to the sports store in Murren or Grindelwald and rent hiking sticks by the day. Very cheap. With all the ups and downs and possibly loose gravel on some of the trails they are a godsend.

Eurogals- thanks for the tip on walking sticks available for rent- good to know.
Budman- what airline were you on with the two hr delay out of JFK?
Was it the same airline all the way to Munich and did you have any trouble getting them to agree to bring you your luggage to another town? I know the rules say they have to but the reality is often different. Did they first suggest you return to the airport to retrieve your luggage?
