A sponge bath for David?

An interesting debate:

Grasshopper - you are priceless! Good sleuthing!
:)

this topic (David) was on the front page of today's New York Times. Made a nice distraction from the articles on Iraq and on the deficit.

Down here we read the Wash Post and ALL we ever see is politics.

UGH!

Grasshopper~
Will he be draped in towels for privacy while he gets this sponge bath?
Why don't they just use Ivory soap for babies or some good Lush bubbles?
So much fuss ! and would the next question be How many Italians does it take to give David a bath:)

Scarlett:

How many Italians does it take to have a bath is probably not a subject you should venture into.

Having followed this story for quite some time, I wonder...the previous plan to restore David was to take place during museum off-hours. Now the NY Times article said visitors will get to watch the restoration (which could take 7-9 months). So now I guess as a visitor to Florence in March I will have to see David covered in scaffolding...sigh! That is, if they get their act together and actually do this.

icithecat,
LOL, You know, when I re-read that (too late to edit) I was afraid it would be taken in an insulting way..which was absolutely NOT the intention!
But you are probably right about that! :)

I would gladly volunteer to give David any kind of cleaning deemed appropriate, but it will probably take me a couple of decades to do it--gee, having to spend all that time in Italy, can you imagine???

BC, first you wash the arm.
Then you break for espresso & gelato.
Then you relax in the sun.
Then you wash his hand. Time for a nap!!
Then you wash his other arm.
Time for vacation!!
I think if you follow these simple guidelines, you will be guaranteed a looong stay in Italy, with all of your admiring friends right there, cheering you on with your duties!
Perhaps even there helping, handing you a fresh sponge, etc :)

Hi all,

Having spent some little time amongst the art conservation community, I expect that nothing will be done for another 3 - 5 years, while the experts argue about the proper method to use.

It took almost 10 years to decide to go with the procedure which was then rejected by the person hired to do the work.

Last time he got cleaned it was with hydrochloric acid(!)

- so I'm sure he'd much rather be sponged over by you, B.C ... ;)
