Gilgen, the bakery shown in one of your Basel photos, makes the best coffee cakes in town. There is usually a line outside the door of people waiting to get a freshly made coffee cake, esp for the week-end.
The florist next door, DuFour, is where we usually get our Advent wreaths.

The next day was a day of train travel. My niece and family went to Paris for a week. I went back to Milan for a flight home the next day. I stayed at the Sheraton in the airport. I had a delicious meal of Zucca Risotto with crunchy hazelnuts and grilled veggies. I was surprised at how good it was. A very nice way to end my trip.

My flight home was uneventful other than a eardrum issue when landing in NY. I was reading a book about finding the meaning of home and the author mentions something another author wrote. Part of it stuck with me.We are torn between a nostalgia for the familiar and an urge the the foreign and strange. As often as not, we are homesick most for the places we have never known. - Carson McCullers

Those photos of Colmar are stunning Paqngo I've never been but you have definitely put it on my list. I have also been surprised at how good the food can be at some airport hotels. I like the point made by that author you mention - except the place I am homesick for is Venice - which is half way between the two ideas - home and somewhere I've never known.
