A room with a stupendous view (Lakes, in Italy)
Hi all
still poking around. I don't know where we are staying in the Lakes... what we are doing.. but perhaps if I find a hotel which just has a heartbreaking view in one of the towns it wil l tip the balance.
So let's hear it! Which of your hotels just had the best views? I'd love the double whammy - snow capped Alps and lakes at the same time.

I'm not sure about the snow-capped Alps part but the views from the Belvedere in Bellagio can be pretty spectauclar.
Now if you want a REALLY spectacular view over a lake and to those alps you might consider staying at the Victoria in Glion, Switzerland, on one of your future trips.

Hi flygirl,
Can confirm that the Victoria in Glion is, indeed, like heaven on earth: ambiance, service, views, etc. I've stayed there four times over the past 10 years. But it's in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, above Montreux on Lake Geneva. So if your intent is to immerse yourself in Italian flavor, maybe head to Switzerland's Ticino, not far from the Italian lakes.
By the way, what time of year are you going?

ha!
I haven't spent nearly enough time in CH. I also visited there in 1993, before law school - stayed at Balmer's and did a fair bit of hiking...
that last trip I also went to Pontresina/St. Moritz/Zuoz etc...
sigh.

Hi there - a wild guess here, but did you by any chance leave a guestbook message at Webshots this morning re: view of Isola San Giulio. I tried to reply through Webshots but the message wouldn't take. And now I see this question here...and noticed a slight similarity in the screen names
If so, the photo in question was taken from our room at the Hotel Orta, as was photo #47. Definitely a stupendous view. The room was okay, a bit on the faded side (but that was four years ago, so who knows what they've done since then). The views from our hotel in Menaggio (Hotel Bellavista) were also to die for, looking across the lake toward Bellagio -- #6 and #22 in that album. There are several other hotels along the lake there that are probably better, with comparable views.
