Though many of you have recommended the restaurant Armand au Palais Royal, I have NOT been able to locate it on sites such as reservethebest.com. Can someone please elaborate as to where on the web I can gain the best information regarding this restaurant? Thank you again. Pam

We went to Armand au Palais last year on a friend's recommendation and found it to be mediocre at best. If they hadn't already ordered an aperitif by the time we got there, I would have suggested we leave......There are many more restaurants in Paris where you can have a wonderful, romantic meal without feeling like you're at a touristy, "bus tour" kind of place.

Another option would be to have a very nice lunch at one of the Michelin starred restaurants, which would most likely be in your budget. Violin d'Ingres, Grand Vefour and Les Ambassadeurs would all be good choices.

Laperouse - very romantic, belle epoqe dining overlooking the Seine. Should fit your budget.
Very good food, too.

I hope I am mistaken but the last time we were in Paris, Feb. 2005, we walked by Guerlande de Julie and I think it has closed. Is there anyone who has been to it more recently? Perhaps it was only closed for refurbishment, not forever. Let us hope so.

We had dinner at La Coupe Chou and found it to be very romantic: very
good food served by candlelight in a
charming old space.

Pabrams:

I'm going to take a different tack. My favorite restaurants in Paris were NOT the ones I'd reserved ahead, planned my itinerary around, and dreamt about for months. They were all very good. But the little place we "discovered" was our favorite. Best of all, it wasn't terribly expensive.

"Ponte Vecchio" is a tiny little Italian restaurant right on the Seine...maybe 10 tables. Book a window table and you'll be looking out at the softly lit Notre Dame. The owner is a charming Italian who brought us little samples of different things he was cooking up. And the food...oh, the food! Aubergine au gratin appetizer, salad, veal piccata with pasta, and dessert. Add a couple of kir royales, a bottle of Italian wine and 2 brandies. Total bill: 110 euros ($140).

I can't think of anything more romantic than taking a sunset boat cruise from Ile de la Cite, then heading to Ponte Vecchio for dinner. The restaurant is right across Pont Archeveche from Notre Dame. I think it had a green awning.

We just happened upon it because it was near our hotel. If you don't try this one, keep in mind that you may "discover" your own special romantic favorite.

Sounds like just the sort of place one would hope to stumble across!
