a romantic place to stay in St. Gilgen on the Wolfgangsee?

Can anyone recommend to me a romantic place to stay in St.Gilgen or the surrounding areas?

Thanks!

What's your budget? What kind of amenities do you want? An in-hotel restaurant, a spa? Will you need parking?

Budget would be around 100-120 euro, yes with a spa,and with a good restaurant would be a plus, but a balcony with a view of the lakes and mountains would be perfect!

We are actually celebrating a bday there :-)

Oh by the way is it easy to go around Salzburg if I stay in St.Gilgen?

Thanks in advance Btilke!

You should probably try the Hotel Billroth first. Seems to fit your bill-- lakeview rooms, restaurant, in your price range (I think). Very well reviewed.
Here's a link, hope it's not too long:

Otherwise, just go to www.tiscover.at and enter hotel billroth in the search box...the St Gilgen hotel is the second or third hit. You can also find reviews of it on Trip Advisor.

Yes, bus service between St. Gilgen and Salzburg is good.

Thanks for the prompt reply Btilke!

Anyway would this area be the most charming within this region (Salzkammergut)?

I also read a lot of favorable reviews about Hallstat, is it good place to stay at?

Actually I just saw pics of St.Gilgen thats why I choose the place

Hotel Billroth looks good!

Thanks again!

Hi al,

In Hallstatt, check out

Gasthof Simony http://tinyurl.com/gtmox

Gasthof Zauner http://tinyurl.com/gmdx8

I was just in both Hallstatt and St. Gilgen, driving through each in a day. For us, St. Gilgen was much prettier and more charming with more to do. If I were to stay in one, it would be St. Gilgen, and maybe take a day trip to Hallstatt to see the salt mine.

We rented an apartment in St. Gilgen for two weeks in July 2005 and just loved it. It's a beautiful village right on the lake, with mountains in all directions. And I think it's an ideal location for day trips in the Salzkammergut (including to Hallstatt), to Salzburg and even into Germany in the area around Berchtesgaden.

I can't recommend a specific romantic place to stay, but here's the link for the Wolfgangsee tourism website: http://www.wolfgangsee.at/sixcms/det...ee&_lang=e (The Wolfgangsee is the lake where St. Gilgen is located.) There is info on accommodations in St. Gilgen there. I'd look for a smaller place, with authentic charm, and a view of the mountains and lake.
