Hey, the last time I checked, the human skin is waterproof! Not comfortable to get a bit damp, but one does not melt.

We just got back from a wonderful 16 days in Paris and Besancon, and it rained at least a bit for almost all of those days. We just popped up our tiny travel umbrellas and kept going. It was simply wonderful. I must admit we took the Metro more often than we like to do, but standing in a bus shelter quickly gets old if it is really pelting down.

A couple of things I noticed that are much better about the buses is that each of the bus stop shelters is now equipped with an electronic sign that indicates how many minutes before the next bus. Makes the decision of whether to wait or head for the dreaded Metro steps very easy. Also, each bus has a lighted, scrolling, signboard inside the bus that indicates the next stop, as well as how many minutes until the final stop.

If you're staying near the Opera, you can visit inside the building, which is worth a look for its over-the-topness:

And then of course, there are the big department stores around the corner.

The trip wasn't a complete wash out. We had spots of rain each day but nothing that stopped us from getting around. I will say I was a HUGE fan of the HOHO bus, and specifically the L'Open Tour. There were tons of them, so you always had a bus to jump on. When the showers started we'd just sit it out on the bus and still got to see the sights. It was also transporation back up to the Opera when we needed to get back. Despite most of the hotels being sold out, we didn't wait on line anywhere...and while we could have used one more day for just a walk about town, I do feel we got a good taste of Paris.

vabarone,

We took our then-high school senior granddaughter to Paris for Thanksgiving week in 2010. We had some light drizzle and even some snowflakes, but never even considered changing plans because of the weather.

May I suggest that you consider engaging guide Michael Osman for a day? We had a wonderful day, and most of our transportatopm was by bus. Michael will arrange the day according to your wishes and suggestions, and his rates are, we thought, extremely reasonable. [email protected]

We had used Michael before, and he was just and informative and entertaining this time.

I know your trip will be as unforgettable as ours!
