A Quiet Hotel in Amsterdam
Hi: I'll be visiting Amsterdam in May for about 1 week. I'll be doing typical tourist activities such as museums, day trips and eating out at restaurants. I'm very interested in finding a hotel that is quiet at night for less than $200.00 U.S. Does anyone know of a hotel away from noisy night life? Thanks very much for any ideas.

Generally, everything not near Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, Dam, or the Red Light District will be fine. Leidseplein can also be noisy at night, but there are no hotels there. There is the Marriott on Kleine Gartman Plantsoen, but it's OK there. I think Zuid will be your best bet.

Am pig-backing on this because we have a conference coming up in Amsterdam.
Have checked all the hotels mentioned here - all are booked for the end of Sept. Would have loved any of them (though Grand Amrath and Ambassade would have been well out of our price range and partially booked also).
Any other suggestions in the under 160 Euro range in the Zuid/Canal/Museum area? Does anyone know the Atlas?

We were there in May and enjoyed the Hotel Residence Le Coin--very convenient location, large room for a European hotel, and not very expensive. We could walk to most sights easily. Many visitors to the university stay here. Rooms away from the street were very quiet (I'm a super light sleeper) but not much of a view.

I think there are lots of quiet hotels but after my last trip to Amsterdam , late May/first week of June, 2014, I would be much more interested in it having air conditioning. Seriously, so many people claimed it wasn't necessary, but I would not go there again unless I had a/c. Also, if you have A/C, you won't have to leave your windows open and thus, less noise.
Just MHO, but it was very uncomfortable day and night in that third floor room.
