A question for Londonites with children

We will be in London next week. My daughter has developed a love of the cartoon "Max & Ruby" on Nick Jr. I would love to find her a Max & Ruby item in London. Anyone know where I might have luck?

Thanks!!

Max and Ruby - is this meant to be a British cartoon?

Never heard of it. You might find some items in the Disney store Oxford St. which has this kind of gift.

Yes, it's a cartoon for the toddler range. It is not a Disney cartoon, so Disney won't carry it.

Thanks though.

you could start with Hamleys (biggest toy store in London) on Regent Street. You can check online if they stock what you want to avoid a wasted trip. But anyway, if you're taking your daughter to London, she'll LOVE Hamleys, Max & Ruby or no Max & Ruby.

I haven't heard of Max and Ruby either. However, you might check a newstand or corner shop that sells magazines. There are a number of magazines for children, including ones produced by the BBC that feature television characters. Even if Max and Ruby aren't featured, you may find some other kids characters that she is familiar with. (You can stock up on magazines for yourself too -- I find it great fun in London to buy the English versions of home and fashion magazines). Also, my kids love sampling English candy like Smarties (similar to M and M's), English Kit Kats, and Sherbert Lemons -- you can get these at the newstands as well.

Actually, I just realized who Max and Ruby are -- they are characters based on books by Rosemary Wells. You could try bookstores such as Waterstones or WH Smith; they often package stuffed animals along with books. Of course, the stores will definitely have the books, and may have other items such as sticker books.

You might have a better chance getting Max and Ruby merchandise in the States or on line. Rosemary Wells (their creator) is American and there is a shop in Beverly Hills.

Thanks to all for your replies. I will check Hambley's and the bookstores too. I was hoping to find something for her on this trip, as we won't be back in the States for another 5 months. I didn't realize that Rosemary Wells was American though. Interesting.

Thanks!

FYI, it is 'Londonder' not 'Londonite'. It is possible you might find the cartoon at WH Smith, which is a chain newsagent/book/CD retailer.

Nigello, if you're going to correct someone, at least get it right!

It's "Londoner".

It's a technical term. . . .

A Foders poster who is from London is a Londonite.

A Foders poster who is from Paris is a Parisite!

A Fodors poster from Iraq may well be a Shi'ite.

If Londonites from London, England want to visit Parisites in Paris, France they usually go via the Chunnel.

Another suggestion about a book series that IS British...your daughter may enjoy the "Alfie" books by Shirley Hughes. They should be widely available in bookstores in London.
