A question for Eva
I have a question for Eva regarding Hungary - specifically the Lake Balton region. I am interested in getting information about renting a house on the north-eastern shore of Lake Balton for early summer next year. What towns do you prefer? I know the south shore is very "party orientented - youth oriented" and am interested in avoiding such scenes.
Also - thanks for the information regarding restaurants. My recent trip to Budapest and the countryside was wonderful. Kispipa was wonderful - the deer tarragon soup was very good. I also sampled various Hungarian pezgo (champagne) - very nice. Langos is delicious - I have a receipe which I'm going to try this summer. The fresh salamis and sausages, the homemade gouylas soup my Hungarian friend made - I am seriously addicted to Hunagry.

I'm very glad you enjoyed your trip.Kispipa is a secretof the people in Bp,not so many tourists.
As for Balaton lake, I've always prefered the northern side,Balatonfüred,Tihany, Badacsony,Keszthely .There are a lot of houses for rent, every building has a German" Zimmer Frei" sign on it.The problem is that they are specialized in-mostly ex-East-German families with children,so these houses are not really elegant.
Eva

I have a site I think, but it's on the other computer. I'll check after dinner and post it. I found it when we were going to have all our "daughters" together there and we thought a house wuld be nice.

Another question for Eva and Susan - any other places in Hungary that you would consider vacationing for an extended period of time - say 2 weeks. While Gyor might be nice to visit for 2 days I wouldn't think for 2 weeks if unless there was a house in the mountains. My Hunagrian tutuor still has her apartment in Pecs and has offered it for my use. I'm also planning to drive all over Hungary for 2 weeks in the next year but I am also interested in just planting myself in one place - any ideas or comments?

I knoew I should have proofed before hitting the reply button - I meant Hungarian.

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner Mark. I found the site that lists houses for rent at Lake Balaton. http://www.balaton.net/53u01/53u01e.htm

Scroll down and take a look. Not sure if this is what you want or not.
|
Thanks Susan - this is starting to give me idea of what's available and also what i'm looking for.
|
I swear it must be either the lunar eclipse or Mars being so close tonight (24 million miles) - I am interested in towns on the north -WESTERN side of Lake Balton.

Also - I remember seeing fields of red wildflowers while riding through the countryside - any ideas of the name. I'm thinking it's the national flower but I could be wrong.

Glad to help. Not to be picky -- but the name is Sally:)

Oops. my bad. At the time I was looking on the south side I think .. but I found those by using a search engine. Give it a try :)

I think 2 weeks on one place would be too much.Pécs region could be interesting for 1 week, visiting: Szigetvár,Siklós,Villány,Abaliget,Mariagyüd,or a bir further Kalocsa. An other choice is the Bükk hills reion in north-eastern Hungary.Aggtelek,Szilvásvárad,Eger ,Hollókő, Tokaj. On the north-western side of the Balaton you can find Hévíz, or Keszthely, both are nice
Eva

Thanks Eva - thanks Sally.

Hi Eva,
We are going to Lake Balaton in 3 weeks, actually we are staying in a town called Cserszegtomaj at a time share. Any day trips you would recommend from there? Pecs or Sumeg maybe. And any idea to find a winery and the champagme someone mentioned earlier!
Thanks
