A question about chocolate
 

Can anyone local please tell the prices of 1 Kg at the following places :

1: Wittamer
2. Pierre Marcollini
3. Corné Port-Royal
4. Godiva
5. Mary Chocolatier

The prices I'm looking for is for mixed dark chocolate ie. pralines troffles etc....

Not a clue, but if this thread attracts chocolat experts, here is my question: why does Barcelona seem to have so many chocolate shops? Is Spanish/Catalan chocolate different from or better than French or Belgian chocolate?

In Brussels in Jan 2006, I bought chocolates (mainly dark) from PM - not truffles. It was €58/kg. It was more expensive than Wittamer IIRC, but I didn't write down how much Wittamer was.

If you're buying chocolates from the PM in Paris, it'll be more expensive.

The thing is that, I live in spain and here I always buy corné and godiva the other brands we can't get here. And now a friend of mine are going to Brussels very soon so for me to know how much money to give him I ask for the prices........

I will be in the Sablon tomorrow and will check prices at Wittamer and Godiva. No interest in Neuhaus? Next year, we should all give thanks (and blame) to Neuhaus as it will be the 150th anniversary of the Neuhaus creation of the praline.
If I pass a Corne Port Royal, I'll check there too (I passed one yesterday).

Ok BTilke. Thats very nice of you. Can't wait. About Neuhaus, I really don't like their chocolates, I've tried them several times and every time I get dissapointed ..... Just not my taste.....

Well, I didn't make it to the Sablon after all, but will be there tomorrow. But in the charming little Brussels suburb of La Hulpe, I passed a Corney Royal and the girls there said chocolates were about 35 euros per kilo.

Did you want a Leonidas price as well--we have a Leonidas shop/cafe two blocks from our apartment.

YK's price for Marcolini is holding steady, still about 58 euro per kilo. Wittamer's price is nearly the same, at 57 euro/kg. IMO, at that price range, I'd rather have Wittamer than Marcolini. For one thing, Wittamer isn't a chain.
Although, I have to admit, my absolute favorite chocolates still come from Schiesser in Basel, Switzerland.

Oops, sorry I forgot to answer your question about Godiva! They charge 48 euros per kilo.
If you like Corne Port-Royal as much as the others, then you can buy a lot more for your euros if you stick with them.
I haven't passed Mary Chocolatier, so no help there.

P.S. Did you know that movie star Jean-Claud Van Damme (aka the Muscles from Brussels) originally had his heart set on becoming a master chocolate maker?
