My wife, the Garden Nut, visited for a few days and IIRC, the only motor vehicles are tractors and the like, so I do t think s/he would have a lot of speeders to catch. I can see the television series already: something like Doc Martin but more isolated.

I think you're thinking of Sark. There are cars and a few buses on the bigger islands.
The Scillies are beautiful. The birds are ridiculously tame. That shows you a lot about the inhabitants and the sort of visitors they attract

there are cars on the main island, St Mary's, but on the "off-islands" there are no cars, just tractors, bikes, a golf-buggies. We used one of those when we took my elderly aunt to see the sub-tropical gardens Tresco a few years ago - she wasn't vey good on her pins so it enabled her to see the rest of the island, which is indeed very beautiful.

One of the main source of the Isles' income is twitchers - as MissP says, it's very popular with bird-watchers and they get many rare birds stopping over for a few days which brings an influx of people with scopes and bins wanting to tick that particularly rarity off their list.

life on the Scilies isn't all cakes and ale - one of my colleagues is a Scilly girl and she says it can get very claustrophobic, especially in the winter. Everyone knows everyone else's business - even more than they do here in my village in Cornwall, which is saying something!

But for a copper who likes nature and the quiet life - ideal!
